Breaking: Duke freshman forward and projected lottery pick Jalen Johnson has opted out the remainder of the 2020-21 season, multiple sources confirmed to ZAGSBLOG Monday.
Story:
Dear Zion Williamson,
Thanks for being the best player college basketball has seen in an awfully long time.
It was one hell of a ride.
Best of luck in future endeavors.
Sincerely,
America
Dear St. Peter's,
Don't be sad that it's over --- cherish that it happened.
A salute to the first 15 seed to ever reach the Elite Eight.
Walk proud.
Today.
Tomorrow.
And Forever.
Sincerely,
America
Dear FDU,
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
Thanks for giving March Madness the GREATEST Cinderella in the history of the NCAA Tournament.
Sincerely,
America
12 years ago, a friend of mine from college was getting married.
His engagement party was Final Four weekend.
I was in Houston.
He didn't understand and got angry.
I missed the party and his wedding, but I saw Kemba Walker lead UConn to a title.
Life is about key decisions.
FDU's win over Purdue is the BIGGEST UPSET in the history of the NCAA Tournament.
Why?
Unlike UMBC in 2018 or St. Peter's in 2022, FDU did not earn an AQ --- Merrimack did, but was ineligible for the postseason
And unlike UMBC or St. Peter's, FDU came from the First Four.
North Carolina has one upped Duke for eternity.
And there is absolutely NOTHING that the Blue Devils will EVER be able to do about it.
The Tar Heels are heading to MONDAY NIGHT.
Dear Luka Garza,
Thank you for an outstanding career and representing everything that college basketball should be about.
We wish you the best in future endeavors --- you're a class act.
Sincerely,
America
Sources: Barstool Sports (
@barstoolsports
) is getting into the college basketball early season tournament business and will host the first ever "Barstool Classic" next season at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
Official dates, teams, are matchups are still TBD.
13 years ago, a friend from college had his engagement party in March.
I was unable to attend.
He was angry and the relationship was never the same, but I always felt that he wasn't truly a great guy.
Then Kemba Walker happened.
Life always has a way of working itself out.
To Whom It May Concern,
DO NOT expand the NCAA Tournament under ANY circumstances.
DO NOT "look at" expanding the NCAA Tournament under ANY circumstances.

America
Five years ago, Vanderbilt fired Bryce Drew after he lost Darius Garland for the season due to a knee injury.
Tonight, Drew led Grand Canyon to an NCAA Tournament win over Saint Mary's.
Vanderbilt is again looking for a coach.
It's funny how things work out.
Roy Williams did not have a farewell tour, but his imprints are ALL OVER tonight's national title game.
The two men who succeeded him at his two head coaching jobs --- Bill Self and Hubert Davis --- square off head-to-head tonight.
America!
My wife is going to an engagement party tomorrow night.
I'll be working.
I know the couple --- they're beautiful people.
But having an engagement party at the same time as UConn/Illinois with the way Terrence Shannon Jr. playing is BOLD.
Remember: Life is about choices.
To Whom It May Concern,
DO NOT expand the NCAA Tournament under ANY circumstances.

America
To the officials working today's game between Wisconsin and Iowa:
Congratulations.
You've successfully ruined a heck of a college basketball game.
Sincerely,
America
Six days ago, Stephen F. Austin lost at Rutgers by 12.
Tonight, it won a game against Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Anarchy?
Nope. Just College Basketball.
To Whom It May Concern,
DO NOT expand or change the NCAA Tournament under ANY circumstances.
DO NOT "look at" expanding or changing the NCAA Tournament under ANY circumstances.
Sincerely,
America
Dear America,
Sports are on the verge of being cancelled.
The formula to getting back to any semblance of our way of life is NOT difficult.
WEAR A MASK.
SOCIALLY DISTANCE.
No other words are needed.

10 years ago, a friend of mine from college was getting married.
Engagement party was in March.
I had to pass.
He got angry, didn't understand.
Little did he know that the CAA was on its way to becoming a three-bid league.
I took a 6 AM flight out Columbus and we couldn't land at LaGuardia.
I'm now in Albany and they won't let us deplane.
I'm trying to tell these people that it's the first official day of March Madness.
We're not talking about kickball.
Christmas Eve 1991!
Changed my life FOREVER.
Wrote a note to Santa asking for a WWF wrestling buddy --- I had the entire collection except one.
Woke up at 6 AM the next morning and nothing was there.
I cried. And cried.
My mom had a simple response: "Jon, we're jewish."
To Whom It May Concern:
The NCAA Tournament is beautiful in its current form.
Don't ever change it.
Don't ever THINK about changing it.
Sincerely,
America
My wife works remote and was in an important meeting for the final minutes of Virginia-Furman.
I yelled louder than Mel Gibson in Braveheart after the final shot.
Professionally, the tournament is off to a great start.
Personally, she may change the locks by the Sweet 16.
Dear Ja Morant,
Keep your head up.
Your poise, ability, and leadership once again made Murray State one of the best mid-majors in all of college basketball.
Best of luck in future endeavors.
Sincerely,
America
I'm 17 days into Parenthood and every second feels like I'm in a buy game against Colgate and down 10 at the under 16 timeout of the second half.
This is ONLY the first month.
Purdue's last five years in the NCAA Tournament:
*Isaac Haas' elbow injury (2018)
*Loss to Virginia in the Elite Eight (2019)
*Lost to North Texas (2021)
*Sweet 16 defeat vs. St. Peter's (2022)
This is worse than all of them.
The Boilers have reached the Gates of Hell.
Problems at home.
Been so dialed in that my wife took our six-month old girl with her to a work trip on the West Coast.
I hope they come back.
But if they don't, dying on your sword is worth it when UConn/St. John's is 24 hours away at MSG.
Remember: Life is about choices.
It has been 710 days since an NCAA Tournament game has been played.
THE DROUGHT ENDS TODAY.
"And Here. We. Go." - The late Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight, circa 2008
Earlier this week, Long Beach State announced it was parting ways with Dan Monson after 17 years.
Days later, he led the program to the Big West Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
ANARCHY?
NOPE.
JUST COLLEGE BASKETBALL.

The Sweet 16:

Dear Markquis Nowell,
Thanks for a brilliant NCAA Tournament and for helping put Kansas State back on the national map.
Walk proud.
Today.
Tomorrow.
And Forever.
Sincerely,
America
Dear Northwestern,
Walk PROUD.
You just completed the best basketball season in the history of your program.
And did so after losing one transfer to Duke and another to North Carolina.
It was truly a year to remember in Evanston.
Sincerely,
America
Five years ago, Jack Gohlke was a redshirt freshman at Hillsdale College (Division II).
Tonight, he made 10 three-point shots and scored 32 points as Oakland upset Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament.
Anarchy?
Nope. Just College Basketball.
To Whom It May Concern,
DO NOT expand the NCAA Tournament under ANY circumstances.
DO NOT "look at" expanding the NCAA Tournament under ANY circumstances.
Sincerely,
America
Dear Zach Edey,
Congratulations on an incredible college career.
Your story should be celebrated for years to come.
All the best in future endeavors.
Sincerely,
America
Dear NCAA,
Please NEVER again allow a team in "transition" to play in a postseason tournament if its ineligible for the NCAA Tournament.
Sincerely,
America
P.S. CONGRATS TO MERRIMACK --- NEC CHAMPS!
But FDU goes to the NCAA Tournament.,
Anarchy?
Nope. Just Insanity.
Today had drama.
Today had authenticity.
Today had bubble teams everywhere living and dying with each and every possession.
You know how we lose days like today?
If the NCAA Tournament expands.
