1895 Punch cartoon: Father Thames wakes a private water company fat cat, sleeping on the dividends of London's water works. Longstanding discontent with the water companies led to London's water supply being municipalised in 1903. #River #Thames #Lee #Lea #Water #HistoryRepeating

Over on the right hand corner of the photo is the remains of Lea Bridge Stadium with the stand that I believe still remains to this day (partly).

It took 3 days for #Sapper Wyllie #GC, Sapper J Wilson BEM and Lance Corporal Leigh BEM, to dig out & locate the bomb, that had a Type 17 Series long-delay fuse, protected by a Zus 40 anti-withdrawal device. #Blitz #Film #Bomb #Disposal #EastLondon #StPauls #War #Remembrance #WW2

Sep 1940 a 2 ton bomb that landed next to St. Paul's Cathedral failed to detonate. Army bomb-disposal experts extracted the live bomb and drove it to #HackneyMarshes where it was safely detonated, making a 30-metre-wide crater. #History #Heritage #LeaValley #RemembranceSunday2020

The ugliness of modern drinking fountains is not just a problem in Glasgow. London’s look like this. They’re a great idea and easy to spot, but handsome they ain’t…

In Glasgow's beautiful Botanic Gardens. @scottish_water it's great you provide drinking water. But the contrast between the ugly blue plastic pump and its beautiful predecessor is stark. How about restoring water to the fountain as a public spirited gesture? @alexplant
