The beautiful old town of Potsdam was destroyed during world war 2. Ugly boxes were built around the old square afterwards.
Luckily, Potsdam came to its senses and replaced them with reconstructions of the originals in the last 10 years.
It would once have been a sackable offence for any journalist to embarrass his editor by getting a story as badly wrong as ‘John Paul Breslin’ has done here. But there again not sure the
@DailyMailUK
has a reputation to lose. And of course
@ScotTories
rent-a-gobs are shameless.
@TriciaMarwick
This kind of journalistic error does real damage to politics more generally. And it is so wildly, embarrassingly wrong. A claim the FM will get £52K a year for the rest of his life when it is actually £2K a year from age of 65. Unbelievable.
Odious.
“In a monologue beyond anything I’ve heard elsewhere, Galloway told me he thinks gay people aren’t “normal”. He insisted that they are not “normal” and children should not be taught to think they are.”
Wow ! this from
@donaldtusk
!👇
"As we celebrate 20 years in the EU ... the World Bank forecasts income per capita will be higher in Poland than in the UK in 2025. I promise this: on the 25th anniversary, Poles will be wealthier than the British. It's better to be in the EU !"👇
'Do you understand why some, particularly people of colour, might find those comments... racist?'
@AnushkaAsthana
asks over Anderson's remarks about Khan
'No, that's people like you who peddle that nonsense. When I say 'our' I mean us, doesn't matter what skin colour you are'
One of the curses of modern journalism is the surfeit of polemicists pontificating. The first thing you learn to do as a journalist is to pick up the phone and fact check before writing or broadcasting anything. We need more journalism and less opinion.
NEW: Andrew Neil has been forced to delete a tweet falsely claiming Humza Yousaf would be entitled to £52,000 a year after resigning.
🗣 'Spreading falsehoods online is often attributed to random anonymous trolls. But in this case a huge untruth was tweeted by Andrew Neil'
The sheer level of nastiness of this current group of Scottish Conservatives is what now defines them. Imagine the ugliness they would bring to our country if they even got within a whiff of power. Disgraceful.
"Aid is required in Gaza because when people are not being bombed, they are starving to death."
@theSNP
's Stephen Flynn asks PM to clarify whether British troops will be providing aid on the ground in Gaza.
He asks why the House has not been allowed in on the plans.
Financial journalist Paul Lewis tells us why life in Scotland under
@theSNP
@scotgov
is better. You get what you pay for. You get the government you choose. You choose parties with the values and principles which matter to you.
This is an interesting breakdown. John Swinney popular amongst 16 to 55 year olds (the age demographic groups which supports independence). Kate Forbes popular amongst voters most likely to be socially conservative and hostile to the SNP and independence.
I've had a look at the numbers from today's
@IpsosScotland
polling on potential
@thesnp
leadership candidates. Firstly looking at how the 2 frontrunners compare across age groups. You can see that JS polls positively across the age bands, while KF has most popularity in 55+.
Another day another Labour U turn.
“Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour party is set to unveil a weakened package of workers’ rights in the coming weeks in its latest softening of radical policies ahead of the upcoming general election.”
Another day another Labour U turn. What a disappointment the party is. Terrified of the tabloids and Murdoch. Willing to compromise or abandon every progressive principle.
Strikingly ill informed discussion. Two unionist guests echoing one another with hosts joining in. Bizarre that
@GMB
so proud of this tedious pub chat they’ve clipped & posted it.
Half the population supports independence. Majority support for the Union only amongst over 65s.
Nominations have opened for the next leader of the SNP after the resignation of the First Minister Humza Yousaf.

asks

about what this means for Scottish independence.
