Critics use findings like "weather is heritable" to mock behavior genetics. "Genes can't change weather, so if it's heritable that suggests an issue with your study design!" But it's not that your genes change your weather. They influence your perception and your location.

I sometimes (mostly jokingly) get called right-wing because I value free speech and academic freedom, understand the importance of biological sex, love evolutionary psychology, enjoy transgressive 'edgy' humour, and don't spew reactionary emotional takes about Trump. Yet, I have

Good thread detailing some new YouGov figures showing that the fretting about the rabid misogyny of Gen Z teenagers and influence of Andrew Tate may actually be a massive moral panic.
On Wednesday, YouGov published a huge new study into misogyny and young men in the UK and the findings are genuinely encouraging. 👉 You can read the full report here: https://t.co/tatPxfPHxh

As a long time listener, it’s great to hear @yorl and @minzlicht back together for a brilliant conversation. @fourbeerspod's latest episode discusses @nature’s decision to require "citation diversity statements". Passionate but measured takes, really enjoyed listening.

Tbh, I did have a hunch it would be mostly women secretly upset by the UK's decision to criminalise 'choking pornography' 👀 https://t.co/3LaYYxxJcg
theguardian.com
Legal requirement to be placed on tech platforms to prevent users from seeing such ‘choking’ material
A 2021 study interviewed 122 pornography viewers and reported a similar gender pattern, finding that approximately 66% of women enjoyed aggressive content, compared to 40% of men. The current, larger study provides evidence for this same trend. https://t.co/xnLCN9RYvz

"As expected, there is an overall tendency to ignore and/or downplay sex differences... The textbooks also revealed a tension between the standard preferences of the discipline and the growing influence of evolutionary psychology"

More than 1 in 4 adults report having had a sexual fantasy involving a cartoon or animated character. So what's behind the erotic appeal of anime?
psychologytoday.com
Animated porn appears to be growing in popularity. The genre offers a creative way of meeting deeper psychological needs and expressing taboo sexual interests.

What happens when you cite papers from diverse political viewpoints, including those underrepresented in psychology journals?
The editors at @Nature must be living in an alternate universe to think this is going to help the credibility of science in any way. Just say no.

All humanities and social science fields skew left wing. Most always have (as far back as the empirical record and the modern left/ right divide goes). But some are less skewed than others, and the level of skew has varied over time. And there seems to be a more-or-less inverse
My contribution to the debate: "Viewpoint diversity is not a political concession. It is a scientific necessity. Academic disciplines ignore this fact at their peril." @HdxAcademy @PsychRabble @Theory_Society

This specific hypothesis (facial masculinity/symmetry) is likely dead now. Possibly too simplistic to start with. Focusing on context specific sexual behaviour with higher ecological validity may provide better evidence for hormonal influences on mating behaviour.
"we’re confident that neither oral contraceptives nor hormonal fluctuations produce the kind of bigger shifts in mate preferences that people often talk about" https://t.co/3pRO9rqeFo

Binary and Beyond: What Primates Teach Us About Sex and Gender (Delval & García-Hernández, 2025) "The existence of this variety in our closest relatives challenges the notion that diverse sexual behaviors are unnatural or merely a product of human culture, highlighting instead
"The most critical insight from these primate examples is that individuals exhibiting same-sex behavior or intersex traits are often, as far as current observations suggest, well integrated into their social groups."
