As a long time listener, it’s great to hear @yorl and @minzlicht back together for a brilliant conversation. @fourbeerspod's latest episode discusses @nature’s decision to require "citation diversity statements". Passionate but measured takes, really enjoyed listening.

I'm excited to share new work led by the amazing Dasha Sandra, a PhD student at the University of Toronto. We know mental health awareness can reduce stigma and encourage help-seeking. But there's a flip side: it can also cause healthy people to falsely self-diagnose. In our

People are lazy--except when they're watching other people work hard. My wonderful student Emily Zohar just published her first first-authored paper, titled "Effort Norms Encourage More Exertion but Not Less". Across 12 studies with over 2,000 participants, we found a striking

New episode! @minzlicht is back and fired up about citation diversity staments. We discuss the much-criticised Nature Reviews Psychology editorial encouraging authors to include them in their articles, as well as Mickey's very problematic beer tastes. https://t.co/plmWvH8U83

As academic hiring season begins, search committees will again wrestle with the topic of faculty diversity. After years of these discussions, I’ve found they often skip the most fundamental question: Why does it matter? Diversity for what? New piece in Nature Reviews Psych 🧵w/🔗

I don't usually write grateful posts, but I wanted to thank the people who shaped my career: from my PhD advisor who taught me to write, to the student who taught me courage. New post!

A psychology journal is encouraging authors to practice “citation diversity,” i.e. choose who to cite based on DEI criteria. This is discriminatory and an ideological corruption of science. They explicitly make this recommendation in response to Trump admin actions against DEI.

I'm republishing my most controversial essay: defending drinking culture in academia. Colleague got mad. One journal editor loved it. Online reactions ranged from "fascinating" to demands for retraction. Now it's free to read:
