Hey, I just had this piece published in @Slate! Let me know what you think - maybe? Nordic countries always dominate global happiness rankings. The reason why has nothing to do with the welfare state or hygge. https://t.co/m7q6VrPqyv via @slate

Contrary to reports, it has nothing to do with drinking alone in your underpants.

Kaunokirjallisuuden Finlandia-palkinnon voitti Monika Fagerholm, joka halusi kirjallaan selvittää, miten me olemme päätyneet tähän maailmantilanteeseen.

Does blinding--i.e., concealing applicants' identities--reduce gender gaps in academic conference paper acceptances? Nope! Does blinding do anything? It does! Blinding reduces gaps in acceptances by institution rank.

Once the logic of land acknowledgements and ‘decolonization’ is followed, it leads very quickly to some very dark futures, writes @Noahpinion.

WSJ Edit Board -- The University of California eliminated the SAT as an admissions requirement five years ago. Now arrives the dispiriting result: Many freshmen at one of its top public universities can’t do middle-school math. https://t.co/j51sSF1jGV via @WSJopinion

Is merit cool again? At Boston Public Schools, it just might be! In my latest column for @CityJournal’s SS, I detail how—and why—BPS, last week, took a small yet significant step toward merit-based admissions for its storied exam schools…after 5 years of “equity” delusions.

"Causation does not imply variation." A lovely saying coined by Tyler Muir with applications to price pressure in stocks and the causality revolution in applied micro. Just because x causes y does not mean most variation in y is caused by x. https://t.co/8CIpeREBth

Tyler Muir suggested this lovely catchphrase, which should stand next to “Correlation does not imply causation” in our menagerie of econometric sayings.

Thanks for the kind words about our @HdxAcademy panel.
Not much of @ASCRM41 conference is worth it these days; however, this session of “Advancing viewpoint diversity and open inquiry” was worth attending. It revealed the extent to which (largely left) politics stifles research and debate was clear. (I stepped in for the delayed JMD)

The proposal appears to mark the first time a Texas university system offers definitions of what kind of instruction related to race and gender should not be permitted.

“If women are behind on a metric, it’s recorded as inequality. If men are behind, it’s recorded as parity. You read that correctly: The index is explicitly designed so that men cannot be seen as disadvantaged, no matter how far behind they fall.” [Link below.]

@PaiviKorpivaara @JukkaSavo Todella hyvä teksti! Siinä mielessä erikoista, että kaikki tuo on loogista ja hyvin moni tuon on tiennyt. Aiheesta ei kuitenkaan media puhu eli tuota piilotellaan. Näkisin mielelläni median ja vasemmiston joutuvan valehtelusta aitoon vastuuseen. Kyse on kansan pettämisestä.

New paper by the inimitable Lee Jussim (@PsychRabble) is one of the most thought-provoking and important papers ever published on the topic of racial discrimination. The paper is open access in @Theory_Society, check it out here:
