Once again: Students at southern schools like UT Austin and Emory often face the most brutal forms of state violence first. This then sets the tone for the rest of the US. If shooting Emory students is not roundly denounced now it will eventually begin at Columbia as well.

Look, imo the anarchist current of many social claims in Mexico - from migrant caravans to Zapatistas to the Mexican Revolution itself - has a lot of shortcomings, but it’s not like communist organizing has been stellar there either. The Zapatistas accomplished something real.

In 2014, the US struck a secret pact with Mexico called the Southern Border Program (Programa Frontera Sur). Under the Program, Mexico is quietly paid millions of dollars every year to externalize the US border and stop migrants from arriving to the US at all costs.

We knew from the beginning: This war was never about Judaism. It was never about defending a specific, historical holy land. It has only ever been about a ruthless and voracious expansionist project, just like all settler colonialism.

A million dollars is not an acceptable margin of error for a publishing house. Huge freak out ensues. What went wrong? Who didn’t they pay? Are the books cooked? Frantic phone calls are made. But after much investigation, no one can figure out what’s going on. That is, until…

Unknown actors dumped gasoline on a migrant tent encampment of around 2,000 people near the US-Mexico border, essentially destroying the entire encampment. It’s been days and Mexican officials have made no move to investigate this hate crime.

BREAKING: Israel has just bombed the Baptist Hospital in Gaza. Health Ministry is reporting that an estimated 500 Palestinians were killed. 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) killed in one go. This is the Israel that Western media tells you is a "victim".

People who run humanitarian apparatuses like Solalinde use them to make explicit pacts with capital and the state. If we truly care about migrant struggle, I do not believe liberal humanitarianism is the way forward. Solalinde's appointment as immigration head makes that clear.

A really important illustration of how the violence of border militarization is never just directed at “outsiders” - it’s also about inflicting greater violence upon anyone deemed “undesirable” inside the country, including you

Many were shocked at what appeared to be Solalinde's 180 degree turn. But for some of those who had previously worked inside Solalinde's humanitarian network, including me, this wasn't much of a surprise at all. Things had not been adding up for years...

I've been pretty publicly criticized for saying this in the past, but I stand by it. Many humanitarian organizations working with migrants in Mexico work as a kind of smoke screen that clouds migrant struggle, dissipating it and pacifying it toward explicitly liberal ends.

It really is incredible that Israel has created such an apartheid state that they can’t even - with all the resources at their disposal in the world - fake the accents of the people who have literally lived right next to them their entire lives.

I’ve been so inspired by the fight for Palestine, especially the direct action meant to impact a war half a world away. But now is the moment the fight becomes even more personal. It is not just at our doorstep; it is already in our homes. And, as always, it is over migrants.

Something I've seen a lot of academics and/or writers say on here is more or less, "Don't worry, AI can't replace us because it can't write well." What they fail to understand is that 99% of people do not care about, cannot identify, or actively resent good writing.
