Wow. @TayHoOakland is the best food I’ve ever eaten in an airport. A must do if you’re flying in or out of OAK!

Fringe benefit of someone named “Vivek” running for President (@VivekGRamaswamy) is that more people may learn how to pronounce “Vivek properly.

People seem worried about this surveillance balloon flying over the USA, so my reporters and I went out for a live shot of it. Check it out:

$.02: Don’t join a startup to get rich in the first place. Do it because you want to be part of building a company, want more direct responsibility and impact than you would at BigCo, + other reasons. If you’re optimizing for $, better off joining a BigCo or starting your own.
“Today if you join a startup with a valuation over a $Bn, as an employee, you are going to make nothing”. 🔥 episode here with @jasonlk saying what many think but few are willing to say. Love to hear your thoughts on this @dharmesh @levie @gokulr? 🔥 👇

Next season of Alone on Netflix…
A reality tv show where 1 person wins $1M if they can survive a full year locked inside a Costco. The Costco is fully stocked to begin with, but never restocked. Contestant is completely on their own, and filmed 24/7 like the Truman Show. Building has power, internet, AC/heat.

I grew up reading the WSJ every morning with my bowl of cheerios. Today we're in a front page story.

I’ve not read the academic paper but one way to interpret this plot could be that home appraising is a racket of some type. But on the other hand, wouldn’t the market-clearing price for a transaction reflect how much it is “worth”?
The plots above are not mine, but @EXjiang and I wrote a model of how appraisers bias prices upwards, and how this affects mortgage credit provision in more and less liquid housing markets, in this paper! https://t.co/C0shD5WcU5

This is one of those things that the industry seems to take for granted. Has anyone seen a data set that proves this out? I’d expect in some financial products that the population mix skews *less* risky during the holidays (because more non-fraudsters are shopping)
We're about to see a double whammy around fintech fraud - which always increases in recessionary environments and during the holidays

One of the funny things about SV culture is how concepts get forgotten and recycled because everyone’s memories are so short. This 2001 article by @karaswisher (!) talks about “last mover advantage” and a syndrome where we’re over-connected to devices 🤯 https://t.co/pDfBcJSVaJ

Politics aside, this is a great opp for software companies to help! However, you’re going to need to find some old school Silicon Valley sales folks. Gotta find the guy who knows how to migrate someone off COBOL…

This is the antiquated system the IRS uses to process millions of tax returns each year.

This is either some sort of next-level social engineering scam or just a funny random text conversation I had today.

Probably the most challenging US market for Opendoor. Naturally, I entered my house in here to see what the offers algorithm yielded. The pricing estimate from Opendoor seemed much more grounded in reality than what I see in RedFin/Zillow/etc. Now if only I could buy AND sell...
