The continuing discharge of sewage into the#RiverVer continues to pollute its winterbourne headwaters. Our MP waiting two months and no response from the EA either!.
In Parliament, I raised the unacceptable situation at Markyate waste water treatment works. 4,000+ hours of raw sewage into our chalk stream is unacceptable. The Environment Agency has had nearly 2 months to respond to my concerns - our community deserves action, not silence

It's the only discharging sewage works across the whole @thameswater estate in a record dry spring. Markyate STW really should be a top priority for a proper fix. The #RiverVer chalk stream has received over 3200 hours of sewage this year and on via the Colne into the Thames.

It doesn't really need a test to prove that the #RiverVer below Markyate sewage works is in a dire state. 3275hrs of continuous sewage since Dec 2024 & there's an E. coli level of 20,000 colonies per 100ml - more than 20 times the poorest bathing quality limit. #GreatUKWaterBlitz

There's nothing more rewarding than when 20 volunteers turn up to show to give our #RiverVer a bit of TLC on an April weekend. Light let in, rubbish removed, soul refreshed. We love our chalk stream!
