And we’re off. What a way to start the latest #SustFest ‘season’ of 2025. Our long weekend of events gets underway at the Abbey Theatre this evening with a charity performance of ‘An Enemy of the People’ in support of @VerValleySoc .

Brilliant New Greens litterpick!.May 17th, 8-9am . Join the New Greens volunteers, who have been responsible for making New Greens the cleanest residential area in St Albans, and Batch Wood the most beautiful woodland in the locality.

Growing Asian Plants Together.May 19th, 12-2pm. Learn how to grow Asian vegetables and herbs, and how to make Vegetable Achar (Pickle)!. Plants and seeds will be on sale, and there will be fun games and a gardening quiz, too. Bring your own picnic!.

Eco Book Club: Local Trees and Woodlands. Long-time volunteers at Heartwood Forest, authors Dr. Brian Legg and Chloé Valerie Harmsworth will speak about trees and woodlands at the Eco Book Club at The Green House on Monday 19th May.

Planet Over Profit Photo Shoot.May 16th, 5-5:15 pm. Join the quick, fun photo shoot!. We’ll meet at the bandstand in Clarence Park; we’ll have animal masks and banners, to highlight the plight of forest creatures in other parts of the world. See more at:

The Big Batchwood Bike Bus!.May 16th, 8-8.40am. Imagine starting your Friday with fresh air, music, and a moving stream of children and parents cycling together — chatting, laughing, and gliding past the traffic jams. That’s the Big Batchwood Bike Bus!.

Beautifying Batchwood – Litter Pick!. May 18th, 8-9am. Join the Sunday Pickers, a dedicated group of friendly volunteers, who have worked every Sunday since June 2024 to clear Everlasting Lane of rubbish and litter pick in Oyster Fields and Ladies Grove.

Nature Writing Workshop .Led by Vanessa Wright. May 16th, 7-9pm, booking required. Be inspired by objects from nature and journeys to inspire your own writing!. You'll hear examples of nature writing and try out exercises for yourself.

Plant Your Paper!. May 17th, 1-3:00 pm, Jefferson Eco CIC, £15. Enjoy this pulpy, tactile, paper-making experience as part of SustFest!. We’ll be adding seeds to the homemade paper, and once dry, you can plant your paper and watch it grow!.
