Idi Amins self declared odd job man & head of the feared Anti-Corruption Squad, Bob Astles, describes prison conditions at Luzira Prison in 1979. Known as Major Astles,he was in fact a British Army veteran who attained the rank of Lieutenant before joining the Colonial Service.[1

In 2012, the Queen sent Col. Kareeba a message after she learnt of his ongoing battle with an illness that later claimed his life in 2013. Col Kareeba, a graduate of the famous 1979 Monduli cadet class, was a veteran of both the UNLA & NRA/UPDF. May their souls Rest In Peace. /2

When a decision was made by NRA to attack Kabamba barracks in Feb 1981, it was Lutaaya who secured & daringly drove the truck carrying the rebels in & out the barracks under enemy fire to safety in Kiboga, a place Lutaaya & comrade Mule Muwanga (below) had surveyed days before./3

In 2008, he retired from the Army with several songs to his name including the famous NRA/UDF song 'Omoto Nawaka'. He was also a recepient of the Luwero Triangle Medal. Sadly, he passed on in 2017 aged 74 years having served under 4 Commanders-in-Chief of the Ugandan Forces./10

Did you know that Gaddafi Army Barracks in Jinja was formerly known as King George V Barracks? George V was the former King of United Kingdom, 1910-1936. Following Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi's visit to Uganda in March 1973, the barracks was renamed as "Gaddafi Barracks".[1

In 1992, he was charged with treason & imprisoned for years under tough conditions before his acquittal in 1995. Years later, he served in @security_uganda where he worked as an advisor. Sadly, Col Kashillingi passed on early this morning. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun./8

Tragically in Jan 1994, Lt Col B.R Tumukunde's life was cut short in a car accident in Nsambya, Kampala. He was travelling with Lt Col Jet Mwebaze who survived the crash. During Benon's funeral in Rukungiri, @KagutaMuseveni reportedly lamented that 'he had lost his right hand'./7
