@EstherAnyakun: In February 2025, Parliament passed the Occupational Safety and Health Bill, 2023, which expands protections to address emerging workplace hazards and trends. H.E. the President assented to this Act.in April, reaffirming our dedication to safeguarding workers.

.@EstherAnyakun: The Government of Uganda has prioritised safety, health, and well-being as a cornerstone of national development. This commitment is. reflected in our policies, programmes, and legal frameworks spearheaded by the Ministry.

.@EstherAnyakun: This strategy contributes to the global agenda for a safer, healthier, and more sustainable world. It is fully aligned with Africa's Vision 2063 and Uganda's Vision 2040, both of.which places socio-economic transformation at its core.

.@EstherAnyakun: It shifts focus from reaction to prevention, emphasising leadership, risk management, worker participation, and continuous improvement in ensuring safety, health, and well-being.

.@EstherAnyakun emphasized that for nomination, labour union leaders such as chairpersons, general secretaries, and treasurers must be officially registered with the Registrar of Labour Unions, alongside meeting all other eligibility requirements.

.@EstherAnyakun notes that only duly registered labour unions that have existed for at least 6 months, held AGMs for the last 3 years, and submitted annual returns as required by law will be eligible to nominate delegates.

.@EstherAnyakun: Section 10 (g) of the Local Governments Act, Cap. 138 makes provision for the composition of district councils to include 2 members representing workers one of whom shall be a female elected in accordance with the Labour Unions Act.

.@EstherAnyakun: The Chairperson, General Secretary, and Treasurer of every registered Labour union. Seven delegates nominated directly to the Electoral Commission by every registered labour Union at least three of whom shall be women.
