I think this might be the real reason Eoin Hayes was welcomed back in to the party. It's because the Social Democrats were engaged in what could be described as fraud.

Friday night political "bad news" dumps were once a popular thing before social media, and they worked. But that PR strategy is outdated now for obvious reasons. So if some PR person suggests this strategy for you, fire them straight away.
I’ve learnt the hard way in politics but when people show you who they are, believe them. It says a lot that this was all done late on a Friday evening during the Summer recess also.

In fairness, I went easy on Eoin Hayes.
@TullMcAdoo That I accept. In spades. Of course, exemplified by none other than the melodramatics of a Limerick councilor, and the calculation of a precise donation. I'm just not convinced this is the hot-take political issue to be going in double-footed and studs up on. It's a nonsense.
