@ErinInTheMorn
As a trans veteran, this is heartbreaking. I am thankful the VA still covers all care up to and after surgery. However, there were many veterans counting on the VA to make this rulemaking change.
Semper Fi my fellow service members. We will keep fighting for this.
@AriDrennen
Chaya and others like her have figured out ways to become celebrities and make money off of being a bully. There's zero substance there between her ears, this interview demonstrated that with a glaring clarity.
@GovCox
Sucks to say this as a Utah resident, because I know that would bolster the economy, but I hope they deny it. The passage of discriminatory legislation as well as a clear bias and against diversity, equity, and inclusion. The state doesn't represent what the Olympics are about.
@Yes_it_is_meeee
@KatyMontgomerie
Actually, no it doesn't. I'm an anthropologist, that's like one of the main things that we have tried to argue since the 1950's. Sex and gender are not the same and are not binary.
@AGallagherAlly
People looking for things to complain about. I can't think of a single conversation I've ever had in one. I'm too focused on changing, do I look presentable, making sure I don't leave anything. I mean goodness, is a changing room supposed to be social hour?
@KatyMontgomerie
She was embattled because she mishandled human remains specifically Native American remains. There is no objective test that you can perform on any portion of a skeleton to determine whether or not it is either male or female, because... Human variation.
@maklelan
Anthropologist here, there is absolutely no objective test that can be done which determines with 100% accuracy the sex of a skeleton. The best we can do is describe it as more male, more female, or indeterminate, based on the data we have available.
@AriDrennen
What the hell is wrong with people? You don't film someone else in a bathroom or locker room. There's only one person violating consent in this situation, and it's not the woman in the yellow dress!
@KUTV2News
This is a disaster waiting to happen. Leave this type of activity to sworn school resource officers, not the public. How hard would it have been to just increase funding to add more SRO's? HINT - IT'S NOT - I did it for the City of Page in Arizona.
@VoteTrevorLee
Woman (noun): An adult cisgender or transgender female person.
I don't know why y'all try to use "what is a woman?" as some kind of gotcha, it's not that hard to define.
@LadyMAGA454545
@AriDrennen
The point of the reposts is to make fun of people. She is quite literally the poster child for social bullying aka relational bullying. That is an intentional misrepresentation and manipulation of information in a way that embarrasses or harms others.
@the_nerd_skull
The irony of the reports and studies that they push is that they often cite lack of high quality studies/evidence as a "gotcha" - yet their own studies reference non-academic sources like the NY Post, and biased/agenda driven think-tanks. "I'm doing rEsUrCh!" 🤣
@ErinInTheMorn
It's true, the report lacks any substance. It's just clipped discussions that are highly curated and devoid of any provenience. A sad attempt to delegitimize WPATH. The report is a textbook example of disinformation. The authors and publishers of it should be embarrassed.
@Yes_it_is_meeee
@KatyMontgomerie
When you have a scientifically illiterate population who would rather believe in what their religion says instead of reality... We'll just label everything we don't agree with or that conflicts with our beliefs as "pseudoscience". Whatever helps you sleep at night. 🤷🏻♀️
@AriDrennen
Evidence quality is always cited as a reason to dismiss findings from gender affirming care studies. The quality of evidence does not necessarily undermine findings. These are the same people who unethically "throw out" evidence that doesn't support their narrative.
@ErinInTheMorn
I live in Utah, and I testified against this bill to both the House and Senate. It doesn't even seem like I can feel safe or at home here anymore. This practically gives every Karen a free pass to discriminate and harass me just for using the facilities that match my gender.
@NormieUtah
If a person attacks or ridicules a child for any reason, they are a bully and a disgusting human being. Nothing else needs to be said about that.
@sltrib
Public officials have a duty to be public. When I was a city council member in AZ, people had my phone number, visited me at my home, like... It's part of the job. If you don't have the intestinal fortitude to be a public official, then don't be one.
@KatyMontgomerie
Binaries only exist when artificial boundaries are set, allowing a group of characteristics to be interpreted as an either/or. Binary signaling in computers are interpreted as binary only because constraints and limits are set that tell the computer how to interpret the signal.
@ErinInTheMorn
"We're just asking questions."
then
"We're just reposting content."
What's next...
"We're just re-homing trans people."
"We're just curing sick people."
"We're just ..."
@JustinBGalloway
@MejaActual
@goddeketal
Read the fine print. Those ancestry tests do not tell you your karyotype. They do their best to fit you into either XX or XY, but are not capable of identifying which chromosomes you have.
@benryanwriter
Another observation, many cite "low quality" sources, yet it is ethically impossible to achieve the measure of quality they are asking for because it requires harming some people by misleading them to believe they are getting the care they need.
@JaneLuciferian
Reductive oversimplification... honestly, the anti-trans movement relies on it. They reduce people beyond useful meaning to try to justify their beliefs about things like a sex binary.
@phil_lyman
Seems history has shown that it was conservatives who sought to subvert the election integrity... fake electors in Arizona (all Republican), the "Cyber Ninjas" who found nothing... like... it's you... your people, you are the problem Phil. You.
@AugmentNechayev
@ErinInTheMorn
You must have needed to use all of two brain cells for that retort. Good job! *slow claps for you* If you had served you probably would have been an ASVAB waiver.
@emceebois
@ErinInTheMorn
I think you may be right. TAVA pressured the secretary for ruling because he sat on it too long, but with the timing of the govt shutdown, this feels more like myself and other trans vets are being used as political bargaining chips in an unhinged conservative budget stand-off.
@AGallagherAlly
Dead giveaway... "Transwoman"... no such animal. Should be "Trans Women" with a space... I mean, a person wouldn't say "tallwomen", "oldwomen", or "blackwoman"... Why is trans woman any different?
@phil_lyman
That's a very non-descript complaint. Was the person exposing their genitals? "What" were they shaving? How did she know they had a penis? Your comfort is not a right, but discriminating against other people because of who they are does violate rights. This discourse is toxic.
@nakedpastor
I am no longer a Christian, but I was for much of my life. What I do know of Jesus from the Bible, is that much like the overturning of the tables at the temple, he would overturn the church because of transphobia.
@KatyMontgomerie
Similarly in nature, we only have taxonomic classification systems because we like to group things together. Constraints and limits are set which allow the grouping of things, but there are no hard and fast rules as to how those constraints and limits are set, it's contextual.
@KatyMontgomerie
In short... gender or sex binaries ignore the nuances that exist in both. When talking a sex binary, for example, can we categorize binary with gametes? Sure... but is it meaningful to the person as a whole or in a social context outside of reproductive capability? Not at all.
@ErinInTheMorn
@benryanwriter
We need to increase scientific literacy, it's a big contributor to the hateful rhetoric circulating. People who don't understand science are reporting "bombshell" reports, new "studies", etc when they are no such animal. Then the talking heads grab it and preach it like gospel.
@bugQ
@vahetzi
@ErinInTheMorn
This is when I start talking about feminism as a theoretical framework in anthropology and archaeology lol... It's an incorrect assumption that cultures have always or universally segregated spaces, roles, or tasks by sex or gender. There's simply no evidence of it across time.
@Esqueer_
Wonder what will happen if we actually start updating textbooks so students aren't learning outdated information anymore? That law is asinine.
@acluutah
As a trans woman who is a loving parent of three children, it's terrifying to think that I'm going to potentially have a target on my back, simply for needing to use the bathroom while I'm with them at one their school functions or extracurricular activities!
@GovCox
@SpencerJCox
- Please veto this bill for the reasons I testified, as well as the reasons others against it testified, and as stated by the ACLU. Discrimination against an already marginalized population is not the way.
We are urging Gov. Cox to Veto H.B. 257, this bill perpetuates discrimination, needlessly imposes barriers to the everyday needs of people in Utah, and risks harmful and discriminatory enforcement against transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people.

@ErinInTheMorn
Would you mind explaining your comment about disenfranchisement? I'm trying to understand what specific rights or privileges are being denied. I think you're referring to privacy in general, but I'm struggling to reconcile how a trans persons presence results in a denial of that.
@Esqueer_
@jk_rowling
The author who shall not be named doesn't care about factual information. That would challenge their beliefs and create contradictory feelings. It's easier for them to just be insufferable and magnify ignorance that agrees with their cognitive biases.
@KeraBirk
Thanks, while you sleep well at night, me... I'm stressing over every time I need to use the bathroom or a changing room in Utah. Great job Rep. Birk, way to look out for Utah Women!!! 🤬
@utahhousedems
I'm a trans woman who's a loving parent to three amazing school age children here in UT. How exactly does this bill protect the privacy and safety of my family when we are out at school functions or extracurricular activities? It doesn't. It places a giant target on us. 😢
@phil_lyman
Stop spreading misinformation. You've already been shown to be wrong, you lack integrity and accountability, and yet you want to be governor?!? All this is a textbook case of (see picture).
@ErinInTheMorn
A lot of it this ignorant way of thinking is a direct result of education or rather our education system teaching old and outdated info.
@crackaco1a
@CJBXYZ
@ErinInTheMorn
That's not the type of behavior a man should model for his family. That's a coward acting out of irrational fear. Cast whatever hate you will, I'm the kind of person who would gladly step up to defend your family. Your fear and anger is misplaced.
@NateForUtah
Fun fact - It takes in upwards of 20 minutes for a coal plant to spin up reserves. By that time a grid event would have already happened. It takes hydro less than 2 minutes to react by spinning up reserves, and hydro has the "iron" to absorb the hits (fluctuations) on the grid.
@NateForUtah
Another fun fact... in a black start condition, coal plants would rely on other resources to get them generating again. We need to continue the move away from coal. It's dated, inefficient, costly, and environmentally harmful. At least with Hydro we have water storage.
@maklelan
Exactly, dictionaries help us to understand the usage of a word, but they are not prescriptive. As for the def. they often cite... It doesn't make sense. "Adult human female" n+adj is post-positive in their usage. It does not mean what they think it does.
@Thymeles24
@VoteTrevorLee
Sorry to inform you, but that's not true. There are plenty of men who have XX chromosomes and women who have XY. Your gender and sex are socially constructed, there is no binary except through an artificial definition of one. A person can change sex, that's a fact.
Things I did this week that would drive transphobes nuts.
1) Ran a 4 mile race registered as the gender that matches my identity.
2) Used the bathroom that matches my gender identity.
3) Spent time with my children.
4) Received gender affirming care.
5) Existed.
🤘🏻🏳️⚧️❤️
Make no mistake, if you have directly participated in or encouraged bullying someone because of their identity, and they ctrl+alt+del themselves - YOU AND YOUR HATE - has contributed to their decision and action. You own that shame. RIP Nex Benedict <3
@DudeGordie
@ErinInTheMorn
YUT... Trans people using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity does not harm anyone else or infringe on any rights. I guarantee if anyone tries to harm any of my sisters in the restroom, I will stand up for them as well.
@maklelan
Sex and gender are not the same. Even when specifically discussing sex, it's nuanced and it changes in meaning as you further reduce it to one's reproductive function, chromosomes, etc. In order to establish a sex binary, one has to reduce it to a level in which it loses meaning.

@srobbins31
"Rulers who wished to subvert the public liberty may have found an established Clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just Government, instituted to secure and perpetuate it, needs them not" - James Madison (1787)
@texaslpdfan
@ErinInTheMorn
Read your first sentence again very slowly. You almost get it. Using the bathroom doesn't violate anyone's rights, but discriminating against someone by banning them from the bathroom because they are trans does.
@benryanwriter
This isn't the expose' you think it is. A fact to keep in mind, not all trans people medically transition. Those who do report that it improves their quality of life (98% for HRT and 97% for affirming surgery). No other type medical intervention has that level of satisfaction.
@NateForUtah
I was the SCADA manager for about a decade for the Upper Colorado region at Glen Canyon Dam... The grid is far more resilient than people give it credit. When it comes to regulating the grid, coal is not the answer. Look to nuclear, hydro, gas, solar, wind. GOP is full of crap.
@sltrib
It's a mistake to discriminate against a marginalized group of people. The data doesn't support the narrative. People are more likely to be assaulted by a religious leader or politician than they are a trans person.
@maklelan
As a trans woman in Utah, and who also has three school age children, my fears aren't just for myself. This is a recipe for disaster/tragedy for anyone not deemed "feminine enough" by some self-righteous vigilante 😡
@mcbs_usa
@ErinInTheMorn
The next administration would have to appoint a new Secretary and a new petition filed. OR McDonough would need to step down. After this action, he clearly doesn't have what is best for the veteran community in mind, he should resign.
@UT_Thnkr20
Exactly! They could have just expanded funding for school resource officers rather than putting civilians in schools with guns! I did that when I was a council member for the City of Page in AZ... it's not that hard, what the heck are people thinking in this state?
@phil_lyman
@sltrib
Kids often absorb and reflect the attitudes of their parents. Don't bully other kids, don't be judgmental, you have no clue what someone else is dealing with.
@maklelan
@UtahGOP
It's a great feeling, you know, when you feel like a second class citizen, or like your existence is criminal... 😢 I'm a trans woman with 3 school age children like... What am I supposed to do?
@sltrib
If you can't face the heat of being a politician, a literal public official, and public figure, don't be one. Try working on and passing legislation which doesn't harm people, and just maybe there wouldn't be risk of threats? Seems pretty freaking simple.
@OliverCowd
@whitecatprophcy
I don't place myself above anyone. It seems wrong and arrogant to do so. But I can say that I worry about none of those things, and yet, I'm still a happy person. 😊
@lydlife
@ErinInTheMorn
As far as I know she's no longer part of TAVA, having stepped down last year. Then she went and created TDVA. I'm a trans vet myself and strongly disagree with her on this. No one should be discriminated against because of their physical characteristics. Ugh
@benryanwriter
@JamieWhistle
Isn't that the same whistleblower that only worked for a very short period, less than a few months if I recall, and violated HIPAA privacy laws?
I just finished looking at the initial insights, and wow! They are quite telling of just how effective gender affirming care is at increasing a trans persons quality of life! I can't wait to see the full survey results!
An early insight report was just released from the 2022 US Transgender Survey, a non-probability survey of over 90,000
#transgender
people in the U.S.
There will be lots to learn from this unprecedented dataset, but here are some of the initial learnings.

The United States was never intended to be, not founded as, currently is not, and will never be, a Christian Nation.
The so-called Christian Nationalists need to try reading books instead of banning them!
