Some news beautiful peeps: in the haze of COVID awfulness, I just learned I’ve been promoted to full professor. It’s no exaggeration to say it took a village - a very global village - and today I am thankful for you all 🙏🏾Expect a 🧵that will last forever 😉Now, I need to nap😴
Dear UK Universitites: please give automatic extensions to all final year PhDs. These are very trying times lets stop acting like this is just a minor blip - lives have been disrupted, we should support all our early career colleagues and do it properly.
Three years in the making, lots of sweat, head on desk, life... we got there with our brilliant authors and my awesome co-editors

A lot of the time, academia is a dumpster fire. But on days like this, when I get to share space with some of my absolute faves

In the midst of today’s awfulness, I’m holding on to yesterday’s loveliness. Still a bit weirded out that I inspire anyone 🙈
So grateful for and to my students! We’ve been through ‘something’ together this past year.
Thank you
@stirlingunion
- Imma frame this one!
It's been a year, and I am really proud of this award. Thank you to all my students this year - we made it...AWESOME!
And to
@stirlingunion
for being so supportive every step of the way! Congrats to my fellow awardees 💚
Just published a thing on ‘EU-Africa relations’ with mes amis (Niall Duggan & Luis Mah) 🙈. Lots of people to thank - it does take a village - especially the 3 anonymous reviewers.
Still so much to unpack in this next phase of Africa/EU relations watch this space…
A holiday to warmer climes is not a human right. But this is not the only function of travel! How we can get people to see family members again? Convo around travel really needs to change...signed person who hasn’t hugged her sister in over 2 years & is staying put still....

Because it defies their world view that says ‘Africans are incompetent’. Some of the things I’ve seen on this app ...eish. They really seem upset don’t they...I shouldn’t be surprised but gets me every time
I wish everyone would have a day like I had today. I had 3 zoom meetings. All were with feminists from all over the world. Some articulated our many frustrations from racism to sexism, all were rejuvenating. Zoom fatigue could not even take hold, it was epic!
Happy International Women’s Day!
Let’s not forget the origins of the day in the smoke of corporate BS. Today I am thinking of the women of Sudan, of Yemen, of Palestine +++women EVERYWHERE who are standing up to racist, colonial ableist systems wherever they may exist. Thank you!
Congratulations to

Once again, if you edit a journal, think of it as a sacred responsibility of sorts and stop being horrible to ECRs.
A tip: invest in a punching bag if you’re frustrated about your own life and don’t take it out on others.
What is wrong with people really?! 🤬
💃🏾💃🏾really enjoy working with my friends. And it seems we also make money for BigPub 🤣. I am ridiculously excited about this new addition, happily joining the others...thanks to my awesome editors and writing comrades!

as someone on an open ended contract, I am more than happy to pay the levy for our FF. However, levying our precarious colleagues as well reinforces the inequities this fund is supposed to fight. Please reconsider a blanket levy! 🙏🏾

Spent half the day on my couch being so exhausted and drained I couldn’t move. Came back to Twitter this evening and of course it’s a yet another incident of white woman victimhood + invoking hierarchy in the academy like that’s ever good thing. I’m so tired.
Why are we still requiring city names for publishers? What does that tell us? I am begging journals editors to raise this with their publishers/copy editors
It’s really sad and such a bad look that our graduating students are being asked to conceal their support for striking staff by asking them to remove their

This is why people don’t trust the UN system. Failure cannot be rewarded in this way, and especially for a person who am has repeatedly shown their commitments to global radicalised power hierarchies. Are African lives so irrelevant? This should not have been offered or accepted.
While this remains horrifying pls let us not feed into British exceptionalism - this is very consistent with the Britain of today and it’s the absolute pits
This is news I just can't get over. John was my PhD supervisor - part of who I am as an academic I owe to him. Seeing him a few weeks ago in a random Brussels encounter was a nice ending to the week, I'd never have thought it was our last time. RIP John, you were one of a kind
We’ve had very sad news about the death of our own Professor John Peterson at the weekend. John was a wonderful colleague, a very fine academic & a huge support to his students. Thoughts of all at the School are with his family, friends and colleagues.
So grateful that this lovely community put their faith in us. Looking forward to working with the office team as well as all the trustees, our members and well wishers! Congratulations especially to Paul and Neli. Onwards…

Just cos it’s in a report is evidence of nada. We know what we know. And yes it will be used to hurt us more, but we didn’t really expect more. We are here though. WE ARE HERE
Prof Alison Phipps actually has integrity and cares about her students and many of our students. I admire her so much and always grateful for her insights.
I see that as usual British press are are having a totally normal one today. Kmt
I can't stop thinking about
#TheChair
. It's US focused of course and I think seeing it with UK eyes is even more traumatic than funny, 12 hours after. The 'letter' written for Yaz's tenure especially hit home.
This is wrong. I mean cancellation is right but using what is effectively predicted grades, a classed and racialised practice will disadvantage students unnecessarily. I mean the research is there, do some reading!
The Government has published more information on the cancellation of GCSEs and A-Levels which says exam boards will ask teachers to submit judgments about grades they think their students would have received if exams had gone ahead
1st permanent job, WM colleague also in permanent job complained that he wasn't able to find a new position because they are now giving it to "people like you [me]". Was it gender or racism?🤷🏾♀️

calls for the UK to adopt a Feminist Foreign Policy, detailing how a feminist approach to diplomatic and development strategy and partnerships would improve UK impact on the global stage, and support ambitions to ‘build back better’.
So bloody depressed right now. Don’t have words. This macho militarism is awful - but we’ve always known this. And while, yes even some of the complainers have done similar - it wasn’t right then, it isn’t right now. Ukrainians deserve peace. There is just no justification.
Maybe I am doing something wrong but each week's content is taking me at least 2 days between slides, scripts, (re)recording 6 million times hoping it speeds up as the weeks progress. On the plus side, I can now add content creator to my CV, woop!

I know how this will go: Unis hire consultants for £££. They insist we all need to 'train' in 'gender analysis' 'cos EDI. Then they'll finally remember the feminists following years of ignoring/belittling us to ask ask for our free labour. Rinse & Repeat.
