Mitsubishi Electric announced that it signed a contract with the Australian DoD for a joint defense equipment development project - a very first contract in Japan that a Japanese company has signed directly with a foreign government in the defense sector.

Daikin, a global top AC company, will establish a supply chain for ACs without parts made in China in FY2023. It will also request that its suppliers produce their products outside of China. Daikin's procurement from China was 35% in 2020 and 20% in 2021.

The question is - a few large, excellent companies may be able to absorb the increased costs by improving efficiency, but what about SMEs? How can we afford higher costs and lower profitability when our economy already faces too many challenges - is what we have to think.

Yaskawa, one of the big 4 in industrial robotics, will establish a new plant in Japan in 2027 for key components, doubling domestic production. Y will double its own production ratio of key components for inverters in Japan to 50% by 2027 reducing China.

About 1,000 companies are involved in the development of fighter aircraft. This shift can maintain the foundation of Japan's defence industry by expanding the market, which has been limited to the SDF. Many companies withdrew from the market due to low profit margins. 2/3.

All major papers covered McDonald's leaving Russia. Nikkei reports in a slightly different tone than others - focusing more on commercial reasons. I believe this is more about companies starting to take ethics into account in making business decisions.

The key issue moving forward is the export. Currently, Japan cannot export offensive equipment such as fighter jets other than the joint development countries. The UK's and Italy's exports to third countries can be hindered, as the aircraft will include Japanese parts. 3/3.
