This is a very sad and frustrating day for the Chronicle newsroom. These talented journalists who were laid off with very little notice deserved so much more. Management should be reflecting on their role in this loss.
We are devastated to learn of management’s decision to lay off eight talented members of our newsroom, including six Guild members, from the Chronicle's SFNext team and audio team.

Thousands of miles from San Francisco, on the outskirts of a village in Honduras, a mural appears like a mirage: the Bay Bridge. More emblems of the city appear unexpectedly and often. New homes rise behind gates emblazoned with 49ers or Warriors logos. This is the Siria Valley.

I’m taking part in a lunch out with more than 100 of my Chronicle/SFGATE colleagues to urge Hearst to support a fair contract. We deserve a contract that values experienced journalists and removes the company’s problematic language on grievance rights and parental leave.@SFCGuild

Back to the bargaining table today as we try to finalize a fair contract. Stay tuned to @SFCGuild for more updates! #unionstrong #faircontractnow
It's become clear that The Chronicle/SFGate has a revolving door problem!!➡️➡️🚪 We've seen a mass exodus of mid- and late-career journalists in recent years due to stagnant wages. @Hearst, this is why we need a fair contract with raises to help retain experienced journalists

Happy May Day!! ✊💪It's a good day to remember 5 reasons why @sfchronicle/@SFGate workers are still fighting for a fair contract after nearly 2 years of bargaining: —Equity on parental leave for people who don’t work from S.F. (company wants those outside Bay to get less)
