Just confirmed that my employer @KingsCollegeLon was one of the ones that voted to cut our pension despite the joint statement made with @KCL_UCU appearing to support alternative solutions. Disappointed doesn’t even get close. 😕.

Today was a bad day for UK higher education. I love my job but earn <half my North American colleagues. Our pension here partially made up for this, but this has now been eroded based on a valuation made at the height of the pandemic. All good will has evaporated.

Mind-blown after receiving the email saying I've been promoted to Professor. So grateful for everyone that has helped me along the way, but this is due to the incredible team that I am lucky enough to be a part of. And we're just getting started. This goes to you guys. ❤️

@milena_tek @UKRI_News Honestly, in an ideal world, I would discourage second jobs as well. A PhD takes a lot out of you and having a rest is important. Discouraging a second job is now fantasy. I’m now trying to see how I can take PhD students on as part-time RAs so they can afford to live. Not okay.

In August my wife Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer. The care she has received @GSTTnhs has been world-class. But 1:2 of us will be diagnosed with cancer. We need to do better. This #WorldCancerDay2024 we are fundraising for @CR_UK. Please support us.

#ScienceTwitter what's your favourite piece of data you've acquired? Mine's the attached in vivo PET image of pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) in gliomas, published in @ScienceTM. It was so satisfying to see PKM2 expressed just in the tumour, whereas PKM1 was exclusive to the brain.

I am lucky to be funded by @wellcometrust who have provided funds to help mitigate these inevitable issues. Money though is not enough. Now is the time to bring back long-term support for PDRAs who don’t want to be PIs: the professional Senior Research Scientist should return.
When labs reopen, it could take time for research to resume as normal. That's already taking its toll on some scientists. But could it also be a chance to #ReimagineResearch? ⬇️.
