Everyday life for the middle class is getting more expensive. To earn the trust of the American people, policy makers need to turn their attention to our 5 tickets🎟️to the middle class: 1. Retirement 2. Child Care 3. College 4. Housing 5. Health Care https://t.co/y1VNfyKdDX

Addressing our challenging fiscal situation will be difficult unless policymakers do the hard work of budgeting. Ideas like this need to be in the mix as we try to both break out of a government shutdown and consider improvements to the budget and appropriations process.
We’re on Day 16 of this shutdown. I introduced the No Budget No Pay Act because Members of Congress should not get paid for failing to do our jobs while federal employees work without pay. We need to light a fire under ourselves to work out a deal for the American people.

"The fact that Congress, who constitutionally has the power of the purse, can't figure out what's been going on is a deep, deep, deep constitutional issue," said @econwonk. Following the administration's money trail should not be this difficult.
We thought about trying to quantify the effect of DOGE at the end of the fiscal year — Musk’s own deadline for finding $1T — and realized it was impossible. But that’s the larger story: No one, even Congressional appropriators, can follow what’s happened to federal spending.

The government is shut down because Trump and the Republicans are hellbent on taking health care away from you. And they won’t even come to the table to talk to us about it. This is not about politics. It's about people. Let’s break it down:

Without paid family leave, the workforce is seeing women leave their careers to care for their families. Paid family leave would give more opportunities for women and families and strengthen the economy. https://t.co/0Rxcbud4RU

The exodus translates to less income and financial stability for households.

This open enrollment season, millions of families across the country are going to look at their health insurance and see their premiums are higher. A lot higher. Let’s be clear: the White House is to blame.

Anything other than an orderly shutdown is 100% the Republican's fault. Vought moving to remake government is entirely his own doing and he and Trump own that. A government shutdown is NOT the movie "The Purge" where laws are suspended
🚨NEWS: @russvought to huddle with HOUSE REPUBLICANS at 1 p.m. VOUGHT is expected to talk about layoffs, departmental cuts etc. The administration has signaled that they will use this shutdown to reshape government, benefits, etc. w @LauraEWeiss16

Good to see @SenMarkKelly thinking seriously about how AI will transform jobs and energy. We need more Dems engaging on these issues. To win the long-term AI race, we need to build skills, support innovators, protect households, and keep water and electricity affordable.

This is the rare shutdown fight in which the policy, politics, and leverage all align. Democrats should make health care costs their non-negotiable demand. They should refuse to participate in a...

Thousands of Americans won't be able to afford health care next year due to premiums skyrocketing—all thanks to Republicans. Democrats must make health care affordability their red line in funding the government. https://t.co/THZGW0B8OL

Millions will be paying substantially more for health insurance next year, according to multiple surveys. Insurers cited tariffs and demand for obesity drugs.

If Republicans refuse to solve the health care cost crisis they alone are causing, they should be forced to fund the government on their own. It's time to dig in and fight to protect families from skyrocketing health care costs that are the direct result of GOP actions.

In @axios AM: The gender pay gap is widening. Wages for men are rising but not for women. Our data finds that non-college educated women are falling behind as they are expected to take on more family duties than men. https://t.co/wwsHSfZZCI

It's the second consecutive year that the gender wage gap widened.
