Earlier today, my office held a webinar on wildfire preparedness with staff from FEMA, CalFire and the California Department of Insurance. Watch it here:
On Yom HaShoah we remember all those murdered in the Holocaust and renew our promise of
#NeverAgain
. Hate and antisemitism cannot be allowed to win. We keep this promise in the memory of the 6 million killed.
Happy Teacher Appreciation Day! Today on the House floor, I shared my appreciation of Yvonne Vish, my 9th grade English teacher at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Illinois.
I offer my deepest condolences to the Jacobs family, especially Joan's husband Irwin and her granddaughter -- and my colleague --
@RepSaraJacobs
. Joan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to making San Diego a better place.
The San Diego region has seen how destructive and unpredictable wildfires can be. Join me tomorrow at 11 a.m. for a webinar with experts from FEMA, San Diego County Fire, and the California Department of Insurance to discuss wildfire preparedness:
People sometimes ask why I care so much about our national debt.
Because we are paying more $ on INTEREST (not even the actual debt) than on our military, Medicaid, or countless other vital programs.
Our debt stops us from investing in our future and our children.
BREAKING 🚨: U.S. Federal Debt
If rates remain stable over the next year, the U.S. will pay a total of $1.7 trillion in interest payments in the 12 months through April 2025.
On Saturday, I attended the christening of the USNS Robert E. Simanek, an expeditionary sea base. PFC Simanek received the Medal of Honor for throwing himself on a grenade -- sustaining serious injuries -- to protect his fellow Marines during the Korean War.

@POTUS
's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for Americans. $28.7 million to replace lead pipes in disadvantaged California communities means parents won’t have to worry that their kids are being exposed to contaminated drinking water.
As climate advocates, we need to build a lot of clean energy generation and electrical lines to carry clean energy to meet our climate goals.
Glad
@SecGranholm
agrees that we need to speed up the permitting process for clean energy, especially in non-sensitive areas.
I've long supported removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act. While Congress still needs to act, it's a step in the right direction and will make it easier for places like
@UCSanDiego
's Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research to study marijuana's therapeutic uses.
Lifeguards shouldn't need to risk their health to do their jobs. I will continue to push for additional funding to end the crossborder sewage that's been contaminating Imperial Beach and Coronado shorelines.
Some clean energy and transmission projects take 10+ years just to be permitted. In that time, many projects that would fight climate change are canceled.
This great move by the Admin will speed up the process — Congress needs to go further and fix the broken permitting system.
Breaking News: The Biden administration released rules designed to speed up clean energy permits while requiring agencies to weigh the climate impact of new projects.
I checked in last week with
@NWSSanDiego
's office in Rancho Bernardo to learn more about their work protecting lives and property. The small staff monitors weather for a big swath of SoCal -- San Diego, Orange, and parts of Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
We need to 3x the size of our grid to meet our climate goals.
I'm glad the admin is taking this commonsense step I suggested last year to speed up and simplify the permitting process.
It's a huge win for the environment and consumers who will get cheaper & more reliable energy.
💡Our clean energy future depends on our ability to quickly expand transmission capacity.
Today we announced a transmission permitting reform rule + industry investments to ensure Americans have clean, reliable, affordable power when + where they need it:
My staff and I enjoyed lunch today in support of Dining Out for Life, which raises money to help people living with HIV. It's not too late to grab dinner or dessert!
