Today marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Greyfriars Bobby, the faithful terrier who guarded his master's grave in Edinburgh for 14 years.

This weekend marks 200 years since our founder delivered his first veterinary lecture to students. Since then, we've changed location twice, graduated over 8000 vets and launched multiple vet schools worldwide.

Students have won support from the University to create hedgehog-friendly spaces at the Vet School campus. Their 12-month project aims to further develop the site to help hedgehogs safely feed, shelter and breed.

A campaign to vaccinate stray dogs against rabies, supported by Edinburgh vets, has helped the Indian state of Goa to be declared a Rabies Controlled Area, with no human rabies deaths there since 2018.

We were very sad to hear of the recent passing of one of the Dick Vet's first women graduates, Elizabeth Caird. She graduated from the School in 1948 and became one of the first women to work in large animal veterinary practice.
