On #InfantryDay2025, re-posting an old thread of mine, highlighting the Air Force contribution on this day - acknowledging, of course, that it belongs to 1 Sikh and their gallant CO Lt Col Dewan Ranjit Rai, who fell leading from the front OTD:

Reunite two best friends Can you help me find the family of this Indian wartime spy who settled in Singapore? Upper Division Clerk Inayatullah Mark, Indian Army Ordnance Corps, was one of the over 60,000 Indian POWs in Singapore/Malaya in 1942. He worked as a spy inside the

This is a remarkable (and clearly strongly-felt) oped from @tamnerd, which captures many uneasy thoughts I have about the appropriation of Tolkien by people and institutions who don't understand him. Much, much more to say on the topic, but X is not the place:
Tolkien’s works have long drawn readers from a wide demographic. But when parts of his mythos are appropriated by entities associated with irrational and violent ideologies, the imaginative space those works once provided can become narrow.

Special thanks to everyone from @USI_CAFHR who actually put the quiz together, and provided the team, teamwork & support that actually managed over 60 young participants + an audience that filled the Gen Sinha auditorium, & included numerous services personnel 👍🏾🙏🏾🇮🇳

A great privilege for me to share the stage with Gen Ramdev & Sqn Ldr Rana Chhina, at the Bharat Rannbhoomi Darshan Quiz. One takeaway: For all worries about syllabi, textbooks, pedagogy, social media, the participating students came across as smart & well-informed 🙏🏾🤞🏾👍🏾🇮🇳
The spirit of Bharat Rannbhoomi Darshan shines bright! ✨ The Inter-School Quiz 2025 concluded at @USIofIndia with participants felicitated by Lt Gen Ajay Ramdev, SM, DG (IT), who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. 🇮🇳 #BharatRannbhoomiDarshan #IndianArmy #USI #QuizTime

Stood at the back of the room for part of this session, back in 2023. Could only stay for a part, as I had a commitment to another, overlapping session - but remain irrationally proud of having heard Col Qureshi speak, before she became as well-known as she is now:
Col Sofiya Qureshi, a pioneer in India’s armed forces and a voice from the first Indian Military Heritage Festival, reflects the spirit of courage and leadership that defines #IMHF. Join us for #IMHF2025 | 14–15 Nov | USI, New Delhi #USI #WomenInUniform @Military_Fest

Had the privilege of being shown the Secretariat, and hearing some of its history, from @Sampan_Travel's own Ko Sai Kenneth - mus', *must* get round to writing it all up!!
Behind the trees of downtown #Yangon lies the #Secretariat - once the beating heart of colonial #Burma. Built on swampy ground, it's seen empire, independence, and tragedy - standing as a silent witness to every turn of #Myanmar’s modern history. https://t.co/nOCmfn8kNI

Been dealing with much else and haven't got round to writing my own review of @philmcraig's "1945: The Reckoning" (yet) - but fully endorse what @ShoumojitB says in his review here. (Also, as Phil himself says, good to see the mention of Bayly & Harper in Banerjee's review)
My (very belated) review in @perfectvoice_in of @philmcraig's superb '1945: The Reckoning.' @robert_lyman #WW2 #books

As always, Admiral @arunp2810 needs no endorsement from me - but also as always, worth listening to:

Asaduddin Owaisi stood in support of Dalit CJI. Meanwhile, BJP spokespersons were extending legal help to those who were inciting violence against the Chief Justice of India. Never Forget, Never Forgive!

Looks like a great evening!!
The evening began with a warm welcome by Mandira Nayar, who beautifully guided everyone through the program. Soon after, Sqn Ldr Rana Chhina delivered a powerful keynote, sharing how the Second World War changed India’s history and even shaped the events leading to partition.

The HAL–IAF debate is running on partial facts, broad conclusions, and a lot of emotion. it’s drawing sensitive details into public view. A request: debate freely, but pause to consider the consequences of your words. If it doesn’t serve India’s interests, perhaps don’t post.
