The problem with diagnostic swapping/overshadowing/self-diagnosing is the person usually does not receive the appropriate treatment(s), leading to worsening symptoms, years of therapy with no resolution of symptoms or problems, furthur mental health problems, etc.

I remember one dark personality parent saying “my child is pure” as he spent years neglecting and severely abusing his child.
A colleague worked for child protective services and did psychological assessments of parents in cases of severe abuse/neglect In court custody hearings, the abusive parents always said the same thing: they loved their children
