@SusaninLangside While the SNP are the target, Reform are the competition, as far as Labour are concerned. That's the only explanation for recent behaviour: fighting over the anti-SNP vote rather than engaging constructively in actual fact-based discourse. Scottish Labour are now Reform Lite.

The total number of charges reported containing at least one element of hate crime in 2024/2025 was 6,019 compared to 5,992 in 2023/2024. Glasgow’s no place for hate! ✋ Report it 👉 https://t.co/JdXvwni0p7

Incidentally the Rights & difference he is referring to in Scotland was initially introduced under a Scottish Labour Exec and as far as I know still their policy. Is it @ScottishLabour or @AnasSarwar policy going into Hollyrood 26 saying they will regress on homelessness rights?

Isn’t it just ridiculous that a Glasgow MP is complaining that Scotland has too many rights to assist homeless people. You are a member of the UK goverment shouldn’t you be trying to maybe further peoples rights south of the border instead? That would maybe fix the issue 👍
@CraigMurrayOrg My dear Craig, you're supposed to be a clever chap. Bring forth your thesis to explain to the Scottish people why asylum seekers who are granted leave to remain in English cities are jumping on the west coast main line to claim homelessness in Glasgow.

I hope that this will be the first of many such projects. We have an abundance of vacant land across the city and this sort of partnership will create the necessary conditions for investment and housebuilding https://t.co/EnvCwgZtRb

One of Glasgow’s oldest large derelict sites is the focus for a plan for 1500 homes.

Chris was in the year above me at Shawlands Academy in the early 2000s when most asylum seekers in Glasgow were at the school & tensions were sometimes fractious so it’s sad to see him politicising the issue & inflaming tensions by dismissing providing refuge as “gestures”.
I’ve worked on asylum issues for 15 yrs. Zubir and Joani are right: the SNP created a housing crisis, slashed council budgets and turned to gestures (when reform and investment were needed). The vulnerable lose out and community tensions rise as the SNP duck their responsibility

@McDivergence It's so telling that neither one of them asks why homeless people can't get the help they need where they are but instead come to Glasgow. Instead they condemn us for not just leaving homeless men to sleep on the streets.

Scottish Labour politicising the refugee homeless situation in Glasgow really sums up the sorry state they’re in. Blame the Scottish Government for an issue over which they have very limited control while dog whistling to Reform voters that they’re on their side on immigration.

@zubirahmed @SusaninLangside I don't know if this is intentional misinformation or rank incompetence. Asylum support is wholly reserved. In Scotland the Home Office has contracted the Mears Group to provide accommodation for asylum seekers. You may find this briefing useful.

People claiming asylum in the UK are not eligible for mainstream welfare benefits and are generally not allowed to work. Instead, asylum seekers who are destitute can apply to UK Visas and Immigrat...

The fact that Chris has worked in this sector and is now parroting this nonsense shows that many Scottish Labour politicians will sell out and abandon every single position and value they ever had if they think it will get them a pat on the head from Westminster

This is a vital 🧵by Mhairi setting out the facts that @ScottishLabour MPs are either ignorant of or wilfully lying about. Just 4 weeks ago @GlasgowLabour agreed to my @GlasgowCC motion pledging to call out disinformation about asylum seekers & refugees. Where are you, guys?
I have to do another thread about this because there is so much dishonesty and really sick spin coming from an element of Labour. 1/13

This MP doesn't understand the basics. Accommodation for asylum seekers in Glasgow is provided by the Mears Group, not Glasgow City Council. Makes you wonder who he is writing to if he is raising issues.
I deal with the most asylum casework in Scotland. The SNP homeless policy kettles asylum seekers to the poorest parts of Glasgow, looks the other way and leaves communities in the lurch. Not fair on New or Old Scots . @JoaniReid is right, the SNP are the fuel in Reform's tank.

Says he has worked on asylum issues for 15 years but doesn't know that asylum seeker accommodation in Scotland is provided by the Mears Group under contract to the Home Office. Pull the other one.

If things are so awful here then why are thousands of homeless people & families from down south coming to Glasgow? We all agree this is happening. We all agree it is a problem. Would be interesting to know *why* Chris thinks it is happening.
Scotland declared a housing emergency after 17 years of SNP disastrous housing policy. Now more homeless children in Edinburgh than in the whole of Wales Populists duck difficult reform because they thrive on grievance and division. Labour is tackling the real issues head-on.

Sorry Alex and Neil you are wrong She was not attacking asylum seekers she is attacking SNP council lack of planning in accepting asylum seekers and only then complaining that westminster hasn’t funded enough. This is NOT anti asylum seekers. Jimmy was a pragmatist Joani is too

Just outright lies bellow 👇 Asylum accomodation and where it’s provided is ran by his Labour UK Government

More Labour distortion about asylum seekers. Neither @scotgov nor @GlasgowCC has any say over asylum accommodation, it’s entirely in the hands of Home Office private contractors. And @GlasgowCC built more social rented homes than Manchester & Liverpool combined in last 5 years
