YSK the 26 laws the 🇺🇸 government “waives” to construct the border wall. Text from @CenterForBioDiv Images from 3 community anti-border wall events where I projected images of wild life who are also negatively affected by the construct. 1. National Environmental Policy Act

Did you know humans intentionally introduced #mange to #wolves and #coyotes in #Texas (1890s) & #Montana (early 1900s) to wipe them out? The disease persists today—and so do harmful practices. Avoid rodenticides, support wild carnivores, and choose coexistence. 📷: Karin Saucedo

Honored to be quoted in today’s @kjzzphoenix story highlighting how urban growth in Phoenix is increasing encounters between people and wildlife. Navigating these complex interactions with our wild neighbors is essential as our city continues to expand. https://t.co/GukYVjt3an

A new study shows that the border wall between the U.S. and Mexico is a significant barrier to wildlife movement. Researchers monitored animals along the border for two years capturing new data that shows how wildlife avoid border infrastructure. https://t.co/LGb9cev2xn

Yesterday, there were hundreds if not thousands of brown pelicans feeding on bait fish in the Klamath River estuary and plume. Less than 1 year after the removal of 4 dams, this is another sign the river is healing .

Walling off remaining wild corridors along the US-Mexico border would close the last vestiges of migration territory for threatened or endangered animals, including jaguars, ocelots, and Mexican gray wolves, pushing vulnerable species closer to extinction.

As the Trump administration speaks of finishing the border wall started during the first term in office, conservationists sound the alarm.

For a species already hanging by a thread, even short delays matter. Red wolves face ecological pressures and now administrative uncertainty. Without wild releases, road protections and legal safeguards, one of America’s distinctive carnivores could vanish

Even as “de-extinction” takes the spotlight, several endangered species are left on the brink as new objectives take center stage under the Donald Trump administration.

I wrote this critique of so-called de-extinction 10 years ago for @NautilusMag. Every word applies to the so-called dire wolf announcement:

This is not a dire wolf. They cannot do de-extinction. They can just tweak living animals to have primitive features. This company is going to make designer zoo animals. They will be isolated, lonely, and a shadow of their loving relatives. Real scientists support conservation.

80% of bees in the US have not died. Colony losses in commercial bee farms, typically ~50%, are ~80% this year. Honeybee farms hit records highs 2024. You should be more concerned about long-term collapse in native pollinators, *driven in part* by farming non-native honeybees.

Hundreds of millions of bees, almost 80% of bees in the US, have died over he past eight months. Researchers don't know why. Here is what this means:

The Wildlife Crossings Pilot Program promised $350 million for animal passages—a bipartisan effort in a polarized country. But today its grants are "on hold," jeopardizing species & driver safety. For @voxdotcom, I covered its uncertain fate. #roadecology https://t.co/iFYMPxvUEW

Red wolves once ranged far and wide across the U.S., helping them earn the nickname “America's wolf.” But there are now thought to be fewer than 20 left in the wild.
