I lived through the torching of US cities in 2020, draconian covid mandates, forced experimental vaccination at the threat of job loss, and numerous other affronts. So you'll excuse me for not caring about a single tweet sent in bad taste.

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard." H. L. Mencken
A new poll shows overwhelming support for an assault weapons ban. Nearly 70% of Minnesotans support it. It’s hard to get that much agreement on anything. People are demanding action on the weapons that have caused terror and heartbreak for our state.

It's good these people were conquered, and the superior civilization won out. Never forget or apologize for it.
"A single mass killing of more than 140 children and over 200 camelids directed by the Chimú state, c. AD 1450." Cuts transecting the child's sternum and displaced ribs suggests that "the chest had been cut open, perhaps to extract the heart." For most skeletons "No other

Whatever they did to the algo has almost completely ruined this site. Long time regular mutuals' posts no longer even appear in my TL. I have to actively going looking for them to even see them.

The last thing you see before the gasoline prices in your town increase 40% over night.
When the mercury plummets to -40° (where Celsius and Fahrenheit finally agree), most sensible creatures burrow inward. But not in the Yukon. Here, in this land where exhaled breath crystallizes mid-air and exposed skin stings within seconds, I found myself moved to dance Bhangra

Occasional reminder that we built The Pentagon, which stood as the world's largest office building for 75 years, in a bit over 14 months from start to finish. If we want to be competitive moving forward forward we need the ability to do big things fast again.
"Francis Scott Key Bridge will take two years longer than initially thought and will cost more than twice as much as initially thought, to rebuild." Take the "over" on both how long rebuilding the US grid & industrial base will cost, & how inflationary it will be.

In the early 1920s Hemingway traveled throughout Europe and recorded his experiences in dispatches to the Toronto Star. His experience witnessing the distortions and profiteering caused by the German hyperinflation makes for interesting reading.

Every post I read from an economist I think to myself, "this is it, the most embarrassing thing an economist will ever say" This is quickly proven incorrect by the next post I read from an economist.
I am painfully aware that people are very hypocritical in politics. But seeing people who proudly broke Covid rules cheer the arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants raises the hypocrisy bar to a new height.
