Our Assistant Editor, and imagery contributor, @StephenJagger4 was at Portsmouth recently and captured some video footage of this historic vessel, MGB 81, which saw combat in the Channel & N. Sea during WW2. Preserved by the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust & looking good!

A photo released by the Marinha do Brasil (Brazilian Navy) of the Riachuelo Class conventional attack submarine Humaitá (S41) alongside. This SSK was commissioned into service in early 2024, second of four such boats being built for Brazil's fleet.

Back in the early days of this magazine a cover feature by a retired US Navy surface warfare officer suggested that Arleigh Burkes were 'the new dreadnoughts', and so maybe (as they are still being built) they remain the 'new battleships'? 😃

For decades I have been told by certain people that these 👇 are the 'battleships' of today's navies. And I still believe that to be a correct assertion. They also tell me ALL surface ships are just 'targets'...am merely conveying their POV, so... 😄

The Duke Class (Type 23) frigate HMS Somerset has conducted the first ever Royal Navy firing of a Naval Strike Missile (NSM), on the Andøya range off Norway. It was part of Aegir 25, an exercise that also saw missile firings using land-based launch systems.
