International Heraldry Day is celebrated on June 10th because it was on this date in 1128 that Geoffrey Plantagenet was presented by King Henry I (his father-in-law) with a blue shield of six gold lions. This is widely recognised as the earliest grant of arms.

On Ascension Day, here is one of my favourite illustrations from the series of English New Testaments printed by Richard Jugge in the 1550s, depicting some lovely dangling feet and Christ's sandals left behind on the ground. 🦶🦶. @theUL @theULSpecColl , BSS.201.B52.3, sig. L3v
