Came home today greeted by a nice physics demonstration: the afternoon sun hitting my bathroom mirror in just the right angle to function as a prism and produce a rainbow in the hallway. Science can be so pretty.

Rate my level of nerdiness: Anecdotally, I just realized that my reading speed seems to correlate with how much I Iike a book. Now I have a strong urge to collect data and quantify it.

It was a long journey, but our work on multidomain RNA binding is finally out in NAR Genomics and Bioinformatics. Our model suggests that "the total avidity is determined not only by the affinities of individual motifs but [. ] their number and density.".

Super excited to share the @biorxivpreprint of my first ever paper! We demonstrate with a thermodynamic model, the dramatic increase in affinity and specificity, by cooperative binding of multi-domain proteins.

While I applaud the new @eLife model to transform academic publishing, here is my idea:.Instead of submitting to individual journals, authors go through a centralized, open review, and journals fight over papers on a "marketplace". Along the lines of @ReviewCommons. #OpenScience.

I don't have a lot to add to the @nature story about @eLife. It reported accurately about the efforts of Randy Schekman and a few dozen editors to derail what we are doing, gave them a chance to explain their motivations, and us a fair opportunity to reply.

When I *Listen* to a *Talk*, I don't want to *Read* walls of text at the same time. I don't read text-only slides, unless for summary slides, slides explaining complicated maths, or if I am explicitly given the time. Also: No-Slide talks can be great. #SciComm #AcademicChatter.

His warning on the next page: "I have referred to the practical utilisation of subatomic energy as an illusive hope which it would be wrong to encourage; but in the present state of the world it is rather a threat which it would be a grave responsibility to disparage altogether."

"My vision is that some day these fuel arrangements will no longer be needed; instead of pampering the appetite of the engine with delicacies like coal and oil, we shall induce it to work on a plain diet of subatomic energy.". A. S. Eddington dreaming about nuclear power in 1934.
