Award winning former journalist now in PR, offering up advice for money.
Berks, Herts and London
Joined March 2009
Today is my two year anniversary of getting diagnosed with ADHD. I wrote about it in 2020 and thought I’d share it again. Hopefully it might help those who’ve had false narratives set by others and know that they don’t need to suffer silently.

In March this year, a week before the UK went into lockdown, I was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Some news. After 15 years working in the media, I’ve gone back to university, studying full-time for a Graduate Diploma in Law. Hoping to find myself back in newsrooms in the future to fight the good fight in a different capacity. Thanks to those on here who supported me

Maybe the Government could let wealthy boomers keep their winter fuel allowance in return for a year of national service?

The OBR giving an absolute kicking to the last government (the one that tried to, um, abolish the OBR).
NEW OBR letter backs up Chancellor: “We were made aware of the extent of these pressures at a meeting with the Treasury last week. .. could “constitute one of the largest year- ahead overspends against DEL forecasts outside of the pandemic years”

Baffling how policy makers can’t see the link that investing to help people achieve their full potential with life-changing meds increases productivity and growth, whilst at the same time easing the burden on mental health services and the benefits system https://t.co/MSBJjCsBQW

Data suggests at least 196,000 adults are waiting to be seen and demand has quadrupled since 2019.

Republicans: we must tone down the inflammatory rhetoric. Also Republicans: the UK is now an Islamic state.

My column in @CityAM If Starmer is serious about restoring trust he should end the era of client journalism and face up to real scrutiny from journalists who know what they’re talking about

All I'm saying is that if *I* was trying to pull off the biggest jailbreak in history, I'd establish myself as the world's most beloved keycutter, and then get appointed Prisons Minister.

100% this. Government ministers also need to engage far more beyond the lobby too. Business desks, social affairs correspondents, transport editors, health reporters etc. Journalism and Government will be better for it.
Time for the policy specialists to step up and the political correspondents to retreat. We need to understand what’s being proposed and whether it’ll work, not endlessly opine on whether Labour will face threats in 2029

This is an example for media too. Hire a housing correspondent who’s known social housing or homelessness. Hire a health corr who’s worked in health. Hire an education corr who’s been a teacher. Don’t assume PPE/ posh school teaches anything about the nation we report on.
Take it in. The first female chancellor. The first housing secretary who's actually lived in social housing. The first education secretary who was on free school meals. An energy secretary who actually believes in aggressively fighting climate change. Not a bad afternoon.

My take on the private school VAT furore and why attacking it only serves to illustrate how much help state schools need. (With mentions of Paul Dacre’s schooling and how VAT on fees are only possible thanks to Brexit)
cityam.com
VAT on private schools has been slated as a "tax on aspiration" - but why don't we focus on making state education aspirational?

My 11 year old son would like to know why Australia aren’t allowed in the Euros but they are allowed in Eurovision.

You’d hope someone in the Virgin Media marketing department is prepping an installation van to pay the Sunaks a visit.

I miss the old days when Tory leaders would actively avoid giving interviews to ITV by hiding in fridges.

So odd. I remember B&M CEOAlex Russo always being v open with media when CFO at Asda, holding press conferences on Walmart results day when under no obligation to do so (and when Asda was really struggling). Can only think Arora believes media engagement is beneath him
☀️Morning! Thursday’s @TheSun Business page: B&M should have been singing about its sales but a weird decision by boss to give press silent treatment and scrapping current trading gave the City jitters. A reminder to FTSE bosses that transparency *is* their job.

All this highlights is that the SEND provision in the state sector is so poor parents feel the need to pay for private education, and yet the Minister for education strangely sees this as something they can be proud of.
1 in 3 children at Downham Prep School have special educational needs. But Labour’s schools tax means that this school is being forced to close - slashing SEND provision. Same old Labour putting the politics of envy ahead of evidence. https://t.co/IRvXm8Iwy8

'I fail to see how making life harder for the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors by forcing a key demographic of its workers to take up unpaid state-sanctioned roles in-lieu of paid employment, will help to stimulate the economy' Says @SimonNeville

Forcing every 18-year-old into unpaid national service will harm our already decimated hospitality, retail and leisure sectors
