(4/6) Here’s the interesting part 👇 Being slightly biased toward overestimating negative emotions may actually be adaptive.

(3/6) This bias was especially pronounced for negative emotions and appeared across many contexts: text-based interactions, recorded videos, and live conversations, both for strangers and romantic partners.

(2/6) Across 7 multi-site studies (N > 2,800), we found a consistent pattern: People tend to overestimate how intense others’ emotions are, compared to how those individuals report feeling themselves.
