Kim Mulkey just made it a certainty that absolutely everybody is going to read that Washington Post article.
You love to see people enthusiastically support journalism like that.

Here’s the

rowing team after seeing a special screening of “The Boys in the Boat.”
A very cool moment, and a fun movie to see with them in the balcony.

DK Metcalf is wearing a Mariners t-shirt at the podium, and says that he has gotten to know Julio Rodriguez over the past few months. They text each other now and then, including after games.
Metcalf’s shirt has Julio, Mitch Haniger, Ty France, and J.P. Crawford on it.
“It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come,it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone.”
Today will be my major league debut.
I’m covering the Philadelphia Phillies for the next three days, as they take on the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park.
These are the best seats I’ve ever had. I might finally catch a foul ball.
#SeavsPhi
By midseason, Scott Servais will become the second-longest tenured manager in Mariners history. He has 253 wins, already the second most in Mariners history, behind Lou Pinella. Weird to think about.
Out here at the
#UWHuskies
send-off as they leave for Monday’s national title game in Houston. They’re scheduled to depart at 1 pm sharp.
It’s cold today, but there are still plenty of people who have come to cheer on the Dawgs.
@SeaTimesSports
A 3-2 count, 2 out, bottom of the ninth inning walk off homer to send your team to the playoffs is like something a kid dreams up in the backyard. Really wild to have seen it in person. What a moment for Cal Raleigh.
My turn for some personal news:
After two years in Mason City, I'm moving on. I've accepted a job offer to be the new assistant sports editor at the Sioux City Journal.
I'm very excited that I have received this opportunity in Siouxland (1/2)...
As a kid who grew up watching Huskies games with my dad, went to UW for college, and eagerly awaited the Apple Cup every year, this is a sad day.
The Pac-10, (and then the Pac-12), was the league that made me fall in love with college football. I hate to see it fall apart.
I’m spending the next four days in Des Moines. My must eat food list so far:
1. Zombie Burger (have been here many times)
2. Fong’s Pizza (have been here once)
3. Mi Patria (haven’t tried before)
Anywhere else I absolutely MUST check out?
Ken Griffey Jr's real name is George Kenneth Griffey Jr, as you all know.
His son, Trey Griffey, is named George Kenneth Griffey III.
I never realized Trey was just a nickname for being number 3, until I was today years old.

Whether by air, by land or over the sea, Washington football fans are doing everything they can to make it to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans for one of the most important games in program history.
This has been one of the most bizarre days of my career. I've never seen anything like what happened with UW today.
Once DeBoer left, so many other dominoes fell

In fallout from Kalen DeBoer’s exit, UW loses projected starting QB, other stars
Time for some personal news: Next week I'll be leaving The Seattle Times for a new gig. I've been offered the chance to be a sports reporter for the Mason City Globe Gazette. I'm so grateful to get this opportunity, and can't wait to get started. Thank you all for your support!
The
#Mariners
had plenty of reason to expect fewer strikeouts from their lineup this year.
The players they brought in to replace the castoffs from 2023’s whiff-heavy lineup seemed to point toward more contact in 2024.
It’s wild how much that has just not panned out.
My three year stint in Iowa ends today. I’m so grateful to have lived in this state.
I’ve met some of my closest friends, covered some incredible games, and made plenty of treasured memories. Thank you to MC and Sioux City for everything. You’ll be with me forever.

Briar Cliff baseball split a doubleheader today, and it is one of the most insane box scores I have ever seen.
In Game one, Peru State beat Briar Cliff 18-16, as the teams combined for 15 walks.
In game two, Briar Cliff beat Peru State, 33-21... (thread)
SIOUX CITY — A year ago, Thomas More's Zoie Barth was carried off the court at Tyson Event Center, her ACL and meniscus torn, and her season over.
On Tuesday night, Barth walked off the court on her own two feet, as a national champion.

To my baseball fan followers, what is the most historic baseball moment you’ve witnessed in person?
My historic moment: I was drinking a beer in Edgar’s Cantina when Albert Pujols got his 3000th hit.
I grew up with this paper, reading the likes of Larry LaRue and John McGrath, wondering how I could get a job as cool as theirs someday.
Seeing my name in the
@thenewstribune
is a pretty cool feeling.
Marshawn Lynch just accidentally said the word “motherf******” on live TV, and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder.
ESPN tried to dump it, but it wasn’t in time. Just incredible stuff.

Some personal news: I'm heading back to
@SeaTimesSports
for the next few months to fill in for a reporter who is taking some time off.
I had a blast getting to work for my hometown paper last year, and I'm thrilled to return. I'll be there through the end of the year ... (1/2)
Hey all, today is my last day at the Sioux City Journal. Thank you to everyone who has made it such a wonderful time.
I still have a few stories to come, and I’ll be in town for a couple weeks. But as for my Iowa sportswriting work, today is goodbye.

Long Beach/Ocean Park!
Main street in Long Beach has plenty of little shops and small town vibe food spots. One of my favorite places in Washington.
Delivered my grandfather’s eulogy today. Definitely a moment I’ll remember forever.
If you have a drink in hand, please raise it one more time for grandpa Ron.
#RIPGrandpaRon
My grandpa died yesterday. He was the kindest person I knew, and I miss him dearly.
Tonight, I’m honoring him by drinking a beer and listening to his favorite record.
If you have a drink in hand, please raise it to Ron Hamel. He was the best of us.
The last time Detroit won a playoff game was Jan. 5, 1992.
All it takes for the
#Lions
to win in the postseason is for the
#UWHuskies
to play earlier in the week for a national title.
In 1995, one of the top movies of the year was Toy Story. The M’s came from 13 games down that season to win the AL West.
This year, the top movie is “Barbie.”
Both movies are essentially about toys that come to life.
Could history be repeating itself? Who’s to say.
I’ve talked with Nick Bellore a few times for different stories, and he never failed to be friendly, funny, and helpful.
Definitely one of the good guys in the NFL. His presence in the
#Seahawks
locker room will surely be missed.
The
#Seahawks
and LB/FB/two-time Pro Bowl special teams ace Nick Bellore will part ways Monday, per source.
Bellore, 34, has appeared in 200 career games and plans to keep playing. Now he’ll hit the free agent market.
Winterset cheerleader Addie Burkett cries during an assembly before the basketball team's state game. The community gathered for the team, thank first responders & support Saturday's tornado victims. Burkett's home was destroyed but she was able to find her uniform in the debris.
My grandpa has lived in Puyallup for 54 years, and told me today that he has never been to the Fair.
I have to respect a man who refuses to bow to peer pressure. He is adamant that he will never “Do the Puyallup.”
You made it. Today is the shortest day of the year. From now until mid-June, every day will have more daylight than the day before.
Also, 55 days until pitchers and catchers report.
This morning, our family lost our sweet boy, Reno. He was my best friend in the whole world, and I really can’t imagine life without him.
He was so loved. Please give your pets a smooch from me. Today is extremely difficult, but my memories of him are forever. RIP Buddy Boy.
Shoutout to the
@SeaTimesSports
team for yet again putting together a spectacular special section.
I look forward to this issue every year and it never disappoints.

I decided that I really wanted to see my coffee beans being ground, so I took the top off of the grinder mid-cycle. Needless to say, it exploded up into my nostrils, and I spent the next five months finding coffee grounds underneath everything in the kitchen
One of Seattle’s best dives- Hooverville. Fantastic atmosphere, good beer, free peanuts and some tasty pizza to go along with it.
A great place to get drinks before or after an M’s game.
Dive bar rating: Four fire emojis and four beers: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🍺🍺🍺🍺

This is very bad news for Alabama journalism.
Whether it be for the elderly or people without access to the internet, having a print edition is still an important part of local journalism. Outlets need to recognize this.
Digital first is fine. Digital-only is a bad idea.

It started as a joke, but the “rally shoe” might’ve been just the push the Mariners needed to clinch their spot the American League Division Series, at least if you ask the fans who gathered at T-Mobile Park on Saturday.
#RallyShoe
Putting out a call to
#UWHuskies
fans for another potential story-- are there any Huskies fans who attended UW games in 1991 and remember the season well who will be there in Houston next week for the title game?
Would love to talk to you via DM if that is the case.
