Today’s KS2 maths reasoning paper is a failure at a national level, one which will serve only to put pupils off maths. There is nothing wrong with tough questions in maths. Mathematicians love the challenge of overcoming difficult problems. But that’s not the same thing at all

New guidance on Mobile phones in schools drops today. I had some input onto this, and I think it’s really solid advice and direction. I go to a lot of schools, and phones are a really big problem in lots of them.

Seriously, ban smartphones in your school if you haven’t already. The opportunity cost is just too high.

SUMMARY • Smartphones are powerful, but can have a negative impact on behaviour, learning, and wellbeing. • A big cause of these issues is the ‘attentional tax’ that smartphones incur as a result of their design. • Schools should consider restricted access for students. 👊

Hella convenient and not at all a bit weird a five year old would choose to ‘ban vaping’ if they were in charge of education 🤔

🕧 Longer school hours. ➕ More maths. 💨 Cracking down on vaping. That’s what the wise year 5 & 6 children at Freshwater and Yarmouth C of E Primary School in the Isle of Wight want to see. And is what @RishiSunak and the government will deliver.

The high rates of persistent and severe absence, especially among vulnerable children are a national crisis and need serious action now so children can have the chance to start anew in September.

Persistent absence is an issue that's not going away. Our analysis suggests that 1 in 5 Y11 students missed the equivalent of a day each week this term, while one in 20 have been absent for half the time. Read the full story from @GuardianEdu ➡️

With just over a week until the end of the summer term, it’s your last chance to book a tour to see our schools in action. We continue to offer tours of the buildings during the Summer Holiday, but we recommend visiting when our staff and students are doing what they do best!

Yikes! Britain’s private schools are hiking fees by up to 10% and more in some cases. Parents say in a cost of living crisis this is tough. Find out who is raising fees most here @thetimes 👇👇👇 https://t.co/ftwyGwWUUp
