I took part in the EDF Beat the Peak hour to see how much I could save by cutting back energy use between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on 21st December. I turned EVERYTHING off and went to the pub! EDF recon I saved 0.05kwh and they’ve rewarded me with 16p. I’m calling bullshit 😂

Welcome to Al-Mutanabbi Street the ‘Book Market of Baghdad’, where books remain in the street at night because Iraqis say: “The reader does not steal and the thief does not read.” A thread on the rich heritage of the historic book market on Al-Mutanabbi Street…

There is no queue. If there was, people would join it.
PM rejects Justin Welby’s claim the govt’s asylum policy is immoral: ‘When people see that the rules are being broken, people are jumping the queue, that undermines people’s trust in the system. They’re rightly angry about that. I’m angry’ https://t.co/vrozpcRpUG via @mailplus

The thing that interests me most about the Harry and Megan documentary is THE GOVERNMENT JUST APPROVED A NEW COAL MINE OFF THE BACK OF THE HOTTEST SUMMER EVER AND WHILE TELLING THE REST OF THE WORLD TO PHASE DOWN THE USE OF COAL AND IT CAN'T EVEN SEE WHY THAT'S A PROBLEM.

Sometimes when I get discouraged with the state of women worldwide, when I feel like there's "no point," I remember one thing: In Göbekli Tepe (a neolithic archeological site, one of the oldest human structures) there is a crudely-carved image of a woman🧵

Because they only want to do it for the power and status of being in government? Looks like many of them don’t fancy the hard slog of a decade in opposition. They’d rather switch to corporate life - more money and less stress.
No sympathy expected for MPs - but if - as everyone insists - it is such a cushy over-paid and idle profession why are so many MPs, who had careers ahead of them, leaving politics?

One person, fighting for more money for people who need it most to survive, is called the grinch. While the rich people above him are having a banquet. Not a hint of irony.

1/8 It’s Children in Need season. I always feel like an absolute grinch critiquing it because it’s so beloved and obviously raises much needed cash. But my ick outweighs my discomfort at being impolite so here we go (a thread)

More and more private finance coming into the social housing sector. This is an interesting one... 👇

I chair @GrimmAndCo, one of the Arts Council’s NPOs. This thread is a brilliant explanation of why today is so very important for all AC funded organisations. Good luck to everyone waiting anxiously for news.
What’s happening today in the arts.🧵 Arts organisations across England will find out if they have been awarded National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) status from Arts Council England (ACE). Those awarded will receive funding from Apr 2023 to Mar 2026. 1/ #NPO
