Keir Starmer says UK will recognise a Palestinian state in September unless Israel halts the 'appalling' situation in Gaza and agrees two-state solution. Hamas asked to release remaining hostages, but recognition of Palestine will happen *regardless* of whether or not they comply.

Intriguingly, the only British political figure listed to join Donald Trump for a round of golf this morning is former Lib Dem cabinet minister Danny Alexander. Does Trump know he’s a dreaded ‘liberal’?

Lots of tough talk from govt this morning about a 'revolution' in the hated water sector. But, thanks to some sleight of hand, the new target for cutting sewage discharges is actually *less ambitious* than the one it replaces.

.@SteveReedMP has been out today trumpeting a goal to cut sewage spills 50% by 2030 against 2024 levels. But Ofwat said last year that water co spending would cut spills 45% by 2030 against 2021 levels. Reed goal gets you 225,199 sewage spills in 2030. Ofwat gets you 204,893!.

Also notable that Labour suspending rebels from the new intake, not the select committee chairs who forced the original climb down.

Timing of the Labour suspensions is very strange, given recent efforts to build bridges with the backbenchers - playing footsie with the idea of a wealth tax, letting them vote to scrap the two-child benefit cap, etc. Seems guaranteed to send people off for the summer unhappy.
