Fundamental, basic, deadly error in Atlas press conference: "The purpose of testing is to stop people from dying, from getting a serious illness." This is SO WRONG. In an epidemic, you test to stop spread before it gets to vulnerable people. Spread anywhere is a risk to everyone.

Thanks to the Pediatric Society of Chile for the invitation to speak about GI Disorders and Autism yesterday. I also greatly enjoyed the comprehensive presentation on Biliary Atresia by Kyle Jensen who shared the session. BTW, his Spanish is amazing.

A comprehensive model with interdisciplinary care and equal access is key. Unfortunately, treatment is frequently determined by availability, coverage and costs and not by scientific evidence or practitioner preferred recommendations.
Medications are only the tip of the pyramid. Addressing diet, sleep, and social situation at home, work or school are the middle of the pyramid. The strongest part of the pyramid is the base. It is the foundation of successful therapy integrating coping and behavioral approaches

Paul will be greatly missed!
It’s hard when a field loses one of its pillars. We’re all still stunned in grief and forever greatful for the many contributions Paul Hyman gave us. I’ve cherished our collaborations. @CarloDiLorenzo1 @SapsMiguel

FYI, that is not the only group that did such a study. In another meeting, there was a 40% difference in half life (more than 7 hours, yes, I would have never thought...). What with these conferences?
@SapsMiguel Interesting but did they control for other things consumed including consumption of Etoh and yes you need another hobby😊

Contact tracing is key. Uruguay with limited resources but centralized and coordinated plan of agressive contact tracing and isolation of cases, contacts and travelers has 11 deaths/million. With 3.5 million people there are only 4 critical cases. Without closing the country.

You and the asparagous kept me thinking on this Saturday night. Found that the sulfur smell of urine of the aspargusic acid after eating asparagous has 1/2 life appr 4 hours measured in attendees to a scientific meeting. Taught me: benefit of in-person meetings + I need a life.
This is different from the asparagus consumed which is difficult for patients with #gastroparesis to digest. But one can still eat the tips rather than the stalk #foodie

Agree with John. Complex. Pros and cons.
@SapsMiguel Agree with you @miguelsaps about those observations. On the other hand, I’ve seen many dynamics (other children, other parents, etc.) through #telemedicine visits to a patient’s home that I would have completely missed in person.

Telemedicine has pros/ cons. A challenge in pediatrics is to get a sense of the dynamics of the relation between the child and the family. There are many things I observe in the in person consultation that are difficult through teleM. Interesting topic. Learning and adapting.
