MLA Abohar - Farmer's Son - Animals, Nature, Sports - Music Unites & Heals Souls - Mayo 94 - Avoid Single Use Plastic - Jiyo aur Jine Do - Jai Hind, Jai Bharat
Traditional foods...'Kaddi'. My all time favorite. With ghee. In our Fazilka district Kaddi is made in almost all 'Bagri' speaking and 'Bishnoi' households EVERYDAY. Usually at night. Made with Lassi (buttermilk) and Besan (Gram flour) very healthy and yummy..
Dinner in the 'rassoi' by the 'choolah' on a cold foggy night and Ramdayal making hot crispy 'Methi' roti's for Meera & me...tonight's menu: matar, kaddi, lal mirch chatni. dessert: jalebi & hot milk...extremely satisfied 😌
Even though I am an MLA from Abohar, the party did not think of me as fit enough for being a delegate, so won't be able to vote..but I like
@ShashiTharoor
ji's fighting spirit, his vision and his slogan 'think tomorrow'. all the best...
Family time..birthday celebrations😊 Thanks everyone for the wishes yesterday..Sunil kaka & me share the same birthday, though his official date is different because back in the day no one paid much attention as to the date that was entered during enrollment to school..
Had taken
@meerajakhar07
for lunch & bumped into
@Neeraj_chopra1
... It was a pleasure meeting him. He has inspired an entire generation to take up athletics & javelin..a humble star...Meera was just starstruck 😊
'Oregin'...made from kinnows of Punjab. An initiative by Punjab Agro.. only one batch has been made so far, by a distillery in Goa..hope it is successful... next level of value addition for kinnow farmers...
@gurmeetkhuddian
@PBAgroOfficial
Congratulations
@sunilkjakhar
....have learned a lot by watching him over the years..a statesman of resolute dedication to Punjab & it's people, plain speaking nature, a straightforward approach, & in today's murky world of politics, his integrity is beyond doubt...
Sri Darbar sab has always been a place of faith & everyone has always been welcome. 'Manas ki jaat, sabhe eke paihchan'...And guys, we have to learn to ignore & not react to everything we see on Twitter..like our teacher used to say in school 'common sense is not very common'..
Children grow up too fast. Time just flies, Meera is already in the 10th grade. In another 2 years, college ...enjoy the limited time you have with your children...
What a '
#badlav
' sir ji...AAP Punjab...see if you can count the number of SUV's in the convoy...and the surprising thing is that it's not an elected representative or an government official..do listen to the commentary of the aam aadmi in the background..
Our award winning Sugarcane (COPB 95), runner up this year & winner later year at PAU..just wanted to show the height comparison..I am 6'1..it's bunched up to protect it from falling due to strong winds..will harvest from Dec onwards..looking good so far...
Here are my two cents regarding identity/language. I am a Punjabi with roots in Rajasthan. My mother tounge is 'Bagri', with other 2 sisters being 'Punjabi' & '
Hindi'. for my daughter Meera there would be an addition 'Japanese' (her mother). Believe in Humanity & Nation first..
Punjab politics....Raja Warring ji asking me to resign, Ravneet Bittu ji asking Raja Warring to resign, Brinder Dhillon ji asking Bittu ji to resign...& in the game of resignations, buses coming home to roost...
Tonight's dinner...Paalak, Mirch ki Chatni & as always 365 days of the year 'Kaddi w/ghee'😊..bon appetite.....nothing sweet tonight.. trying to cut down on the sugar..
Our traditional foods...Kaachar or chhibar (in punjabi). We use it predominantly to make chutney. Grows wild...one of my favorites...can be dried and kept for a long time....was on the farm and decided to share...
Village Life.. making ghee (bilona)..milk is collected, heated, yogurt starter is added, fermented overnight..churned in the morning..ghee is separated from Lassi/chaah...Lassi is used to make kadhi, drink, given to the cows and used to make organic fertilizer..tough work😊
Some precious family time with long walks on the farm with Meera & Atsuko, under nature's breath taking canvas, before the grind of the Lok Sabha election starts. Evenings are still cool & the smell of kinnows flowering is just divne.....
Even though we maybe opposed politically, it was a pleasure meeting
@AbhimanyuP00NIA
yesterday at a wedding..all parties should encourage young leaders who come up through the grassroots. It reinvigorates the parties, brings in new ideas & serves as motivation to others..
We might have political differences but I agree with
@bsmajithia
that Punjabi's want to live in peace and Punjab belongs to us all Punjabi's. & the people talking about referendums sitting overseas should come to Punjab and ask us Punjabi's what we want. We have suffered enough.
To all the bigots (of all faiths) out there: the real issues of Punjab are: pollution of our rivers/ canals, depletion of ground water, revival of our agriculture, better medical, educational facilities, job creation, improved governance etc..(you guys have gotten sidetracked).
Jai & me dropped off Meera at the airport..She is visiting her Nani in Fujiyoshida (Japan) for her summer holidays..this time she wanted to travel all by herself...how time flies..children grow up before you know it..
'We have miles to go before we sleep'..today Abohar was ranked 2nd among the 14 corporations of Punjab in the Swachh Surveksha Survey (3 years ago we were last, the dirtiest) thanks guys for your dedication and thanks to all the corporation 'safai sewaks' for your hard work..
Whatever your views about him, working with & observing
@SukhpalKhaira
ji since the past one year, I have learned that he does his homework & always has facts to back up his claims. At times, he may be aggressive but the issues he picks are very pertinent to the state..
Now that the people of Gujrat and Himachal have spoken, I hope Bhagwant Mann sab and the entire
@AAPPunjab
team will start working in and for Punjab with the same enthusiasm...
@CMOPb
Politics aside, I really appreciate
@PargatSOfficial
for publicly acknowledging the personal integrity of
@sunilkjakhar
, my role model. Having observed Pargat ji closely, he is one of the few politicians in PB who is always willing to engage with the opposition, pushing towards
Dinner time in the 'Rassoi', next to the 'Chullaha', on a cold foggy night..Ramdyal & Shyamu, as usual, cooking delicious food..menu tonight, Bajri roti, Paneer, Kaddhi, Matar, Mirch ki chatni, Salad & for dessert it's Shakkar with lots of Ghee 😊..Thankful & blessed 🙏
I suggested yesterday that besides the legal issues, we on all levels (politics, unions, farmers & intellectuals) need to dispel the 'myth' that Punjab has enough water. Data now proves it beyond any doubt, 'that we don't'. We are at the tail end, & we don't even get our share..
Observations from Japan..in Fujiyoshida (wife's hometown), I noticed a lot of people were growing their own vegetables.. right next to super market's, offices, houses, patches of vegetables all over..& the patches were very meticulous..made me wonder...strong connect with land?
Atsuko & I had planted this Indian Banyan tree (Bargad, Vatavriksh) 16 years ago when
@meerajakhar07
was born.. It has taken root nicely & inspires me to leave our world a better place.. Plant trees in your loved one's memories, look after them & avoid single use plastic...
The arrest of
@SukhpalKhaira
this morning from his residence in an old unsubstantiated case shows the vindictive & malicious intent of the AAP government...
@CMOPb
@DGPPunjabPolice
On one hand, there is a progressive Punjab summit going on in Mohali & on the other, peoplel bent on taking Punjab back to the dark days, when thousands of people of all faith's lost their lives, have taken over a police station in Ajnala..rule of law?
@CMOPb
@DGPPunjabPolice
Which way are the winds blowing in Punjab?? Two years ago, there was a storm in AAP's favour & one could sense it, but now....AAP has turned out to be a huge disappointment...People keeping the card's close to their chests...In our Fazilka dist, I feel BJP has an edge, but then
Khalsa aid has always stepped in with a helping hand in times of natural calamities all over the world. Commendable step by
@sunilkjakhar
to take up the matter with the home minister..
Have planted sugarcane after a period of 30 years...trying out three different varieties....the biggest problem with sugarcane we have faced in the past is the long delay in payments....
In Punjab, Mustard (ਸਰ੍ਹੋਂ, सरसों) is selling below MSP. Nafed is procuring at MSP in adjoining Hry & Raj without any cost to the state. Mann sab, am told Govt of Punjab hasn't even submitted a proposal for mustard procurement at MSP to the Union Govt?
@CMOPb
@KuldeepSinghAAP
The sheer arrogance of the punjab congress president, when you publicly rebuke a senior leader like Khaira sab and then one expects to be respected by the cadre..Respect is earned....
One of the most memorable evenings for us grandchildren when we had gathered for Meera’s 3rd birthday in 2010 & Dadaji spent the entire evening watching over us. The most benevolent patriarch.. His passion was farming, his fields, & Urdu poetry. His 100th birth anniversary today
The death of Shubhkaran Singh today at Khanauri border in the firing by Haryana police is tragic. A young life was extinguished before he could realize his potential..amidst this carnage, I hope the government is able to restore our faith in it & provide a remedy for despair..
'The woods are lovely, dark & deep, but I have promises to keep, & miles to go before I sleep'.. Thank you Congress Party, & grateful to most of my colleagues, who always gave me good advice & the respect is mutual..
'ਪਵਨ ਗੁਰੂ, ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ, ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਹਤ' 'पवन गुरु, पानी पिता, माता धरत महत'. A mere slogan now..On today's cleaning drive along our canal (our lifeline), you name it, we found it..syringes, injections, urine bags, daipers, pesticides, liquor bottles & of course house hold garbage..
Small world indeed. We were invited to a fellow Punjabi couple's home in Tokyo for dinner. Meeting for the first time. The husband was from Ganganagar, wife from Muktsar. Both had studied in DAV Abohar & family members from both sides had known my grandfather & tau ji very well
Visited my cousin in Pir Kamaria, Dist Hanumangarh, Raj. My funfa ji (Krishan Chahar ji) is passionate about Marwari horses. His KC stud farm, started in 2007, has produced many champions. Recently, their filly Dhara won the best prize in the Pushkar fair..horses all the way 😊
Our Sugarcane won the best prize in Punjab at PAU..Jai and Gurjant receiving the prize..the variety was COPB 160, yield was over 600 Quintal / acre, height of about 14'...Jai looks after the farming now...
Instead of raising the political discourse, some PB leaders touched a new low at Hamdard support meet in Jalandhar. You all heard what was said..today
@BhagwantMann
sab went even lower, but this is what my leader
@sunilkjakhar
had to say..
Atleast
@sunilkjakhar
is 'Asli' unlike someone & I hear a compromise been done with CM regarding some files

@sunilkjakhar

Stand up for the female wrestlers who brought glory to our county with the same vigour with which you vent out your frustration against us. This will do you more good.
Hope you don’t feel suffocated in
@BJP4India
.
At least someone has a spine..30 crores just for publicity..Imagine all that can be done for the hospitals with that money..If only there were more officers who would look after the interests of the state first..

Salute to Mr Ajoy Sharma
I remember my grandfather wearing the 'Chaddra' regularly..back in the day it was common to see people in villages with this attire, but rare these days....but Gabbar ji (Malkeet Jakhar ji from our neighboring village Patrewala) does carry it with full swag😊...
Padma Shri Surjit Patar Sab...End of an era..🙏 sharing some lines from one of my favorite poems by Patar sab...message of hope, of positivity...Rest in Peace...
Rice field with a view..Haruko san grows her own rice..about .5 acre plot, enough for her family & friends, stores it at home. Water channels are everywhere & is abundant..Fujiyoshida is famous for its fresh water springs. Rich black soil, which drains very well.
My take on the SYL issue: As a farmer on the tail end of the canal system and where the ground water is not potable, first please make sure we get our quota and then the government can think of what to do with the spare water, 'if any'....
@CMOPb
Just had delicious Strawberries, grown in Patti Billa (Abohar) by a young innovative farmer, Nikhil Setia...His kinnow orchards were getting spoiled & he experimented & voila...has been growing them since 3 years, won the first prize in PAU Kissan Mela as well this year..👍
The next generation has taken over the family farm...
@jaiveerjakhar
..the sugarcane in the background is of variety COPB-95, which won the 2nd best prize in Punjab at PAU..last year was first 😊
My sister is here along with my niece Gauri for her holidays & 'Maalpua's' were made on their request today (my favorite😊)..I Just couldn't resist....I think the effects of a weeks worth of exercise were neutralized within a few minutes....
AAP trying to throttle the voice of RTI activist
@ManikGoyal_
& the funny thing is that this document regarding getting a private jet for Kejriwal ji's use is avaliable on the Punjab government's website..

I remember my grandmom milking the cows. Now, my mom takes care & supervises. Growing up, we had about 40 cows, now around 15. It's a lot of constant hard work & the day starts at 5 am..daily...what will the next generation opt for? This or Verka/Amul?
@meerajakhar07
Meera sent me this video of her breakfast at her 'nanke/nanihal/nanero' in Japan..'No makkhan/ghee, no milk, small portion'.. No wonder the Japanese have the longest lifespan in the world 😊
The reason we can all sleep comfortably in our quilts on cold December nights is because our brave forces are out there thwarting our enemies..Jai Hind..
How low will we go? The political discourse in Punjab today is all about belittling your opponents..what happened to the issues of good governance, corruption, law & Order, drug addiction, unemployment, agriculture & water crisis..guess nobody cares..long live the revolution...
On the way to attend the seminar with
@sunilkjakhar
ji on 'Punjab Waters', 'Unmasking the crisis'...a good initiative by
@PargatSOfficial
ji..On the critical issues of Punjab, we all need to get together, separate the rhetoric from the facts & work on possible solutions..
Have been planting carrots since the last three years..this year we prepared our own seed..hardy crop, 90 days..key is the timing during sowing..our avg yield has been about 90q/acre. Will be ready in about 15 days..downside is the rate fluctuations..can swing wildly...
Peach Farming, Japan (Yamanashi)..thinning done manually as they want good quality & bigger size..before harvest 'each peach' is covered with double layered paper to protect from rain/wind..silver sheets spread on the ground for the peach to absorb reflected sunlight..
The Punjab Regiment getting ready for the
#BastilleDay
parade in France on July 14th...they will be representing the Indian Army...Jai Hind..'Har Maidaan Fateh'..
Why are some people scared of Shaheed Bhagat Singh? I think because of what you see in his hands..'books'...because of his ideas, his vision...he was a unifier, he believed in true equality, justice...he believed in Nation first.....
Finally, I had some spare time this evening, so went to our fields. Diversification along with intercropping. Everyone talks about it, we in our area are doing it for years (don't have enough canal water & groundwater is salty)..Carrots, Sugarcane, Kinnow, Peach, Pear & Mustard.
The moment of sheer joy captured by
@meerajakhar07
, when I was about to forget the worries of the world for a few moments while enjoying my chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone 😋...thanks for the treat Meera...
Double whammy...floods on one hand & dry Irrigation Canals on the other...met
@meet_hayer
ji regarding the shortage of water in the Abohar system...Fazilka dist had 64% deficit of rainfall according to IMD this year..Minister assured of immediate redressal...hopeful
Way to go girl's...during my visit to village Panjawa today, met Sapna, who just became a elementary school teacher & is already helping in renovating her house with her earnings and Priyanka, who is studying to become a physical education teacher...
Congratulations Hamir ji,
@PargatSOfficial
& team to bring such a diverse group of people, politicians, unions, students & intellectuals together. Finally, we politicians doing most of the listening..a positive first step in moving from historical mistakes to possible solutions
Meera is here for her winter holidays & it was a beautiful afternoon to go for a long walk on the farm...diversification in full flow....
@meerajakhar07
Bumped into
@meet_hayer
at a social function today.. congratulated him on taking the initiative of 'Kheda Wattan Punjab Diyan'. Also discussed the importance of having good long term policies to make Punjab a sports power house again..great to see his passion towards sports...
Thank you for your efforts
@vikramsahney
ji, but I think you have been misinformed. Lulu group has been procuring Kinnow from Abohar area for the past 6 years & an order of 1,500 tonnes - it's the yield of 75 acres only, whereas Punjab has over 1,00,000 acres of kinnow..
So the way I understand it, according to Navjot Sidhu ji, the main opposition party has made a deal with the AAP government in Punjab not to raise certain issues as long as they get their cut or are not investigated...80:20..wonder who in the opposition?
This Pipal tree (sacred fig) was planted by my grandmother when my uncle
@sunilkjakhar
ji was born...and since childhood it was my favorite because all its hollows always had owl families in them...I was always fascinated by owls...
@meerajakhar07
Participated in the wedding celebrations of Lal Chand ji's grand daughter Renu at 51LNP, Raj. He has driven 5 generations of our family. He drove my grandfather to the Parliament in 1980, and he drove my uncle
@sunilkjakhar
too in 2017...
Sunday musings.. What it's all about..'WATER'..how much, canal, rights, royalty, over exploitation, alternatives, way forward?..this pic is on one of our lifeline's, the Daulatpura Minor...FYI, our Abohar & Balluana area at the tail end is totally dependent on canal water.
Observations from Japan..in schools here (as well as homes) shoes are removed at the entrance & kids change into 'uwabaki' (indoor slippers)..Meera has been assisting in teaching kids English at 'Shimoyoshida Daiichi Shougakko'. Her mom too went to school here😊. Last day today.
I hope the 3rd round of talks between farmer unions & government today are fruitful.. a lot of the concerns are genuine & hope both sides show magnimity, especially the govt. Kinnow & carrot farmers of our area are suffering losses as transportation has been hit...hopeful...
Panjkosi. Beautiful sunset & the solitary Peepal tree.. a lot of memories attached to this spot..the most famous being when my dad, sister & me were attacked & bitten by a swarn of bees during the summer wheat harvest 😊
