My wife cried watching the trailer and said "I'm just so proud of you" and now I'm 😭😭
Castlevania: Nocturne is coming September 28, only on Netflix. 😊🦇
I PRAY FOR YOU, RICHTER BELMONT. Witness the rise of our gaming icon and vampire hunter prodigy in the all-new Castlevania: Nocturne - premiering September 28, only on Netflix.
Ghosting in anime isn't AI. It's a technique used to pass the Harding Test, which is a test that determines the level of risk for epileptic seizures. Ghosting has been around since well before current generative AI technology.
If you guys are wondering why Mappa changed some things, this very smart woman explains it perfectly!
To sum it up, she spoke to an animator, and it all boils down to Budget🤑, A.I. 🤓and Time. 😵
Also the ghosting this season is because of A.i. 😲😲😲
The animated show is great. What would a live action version add that we're not already getting?
Just put that money in to the animated series instead.
I'm 38 years old and still learning how to get better at drawing, it's just a thing forever, a never-ending journey, just accept it and keep on keepin' on
I keep thinkin about AI dudes sayin stuff like it "enables people to create who couldn't before"
That Corridor vid was shot in live action before they ran AI shit over it
Youve literally been able to film a movie on a phone for years. What was stopping you from creating before?
Just finished an incredible episode of Castlevania! I'm so proud of the whole team, I teared up! 😭 S4 is turning out PHENOMENAL!
As a little gift for Thanksgiving...Here's a couple screenshots from s4.... 👀✨
Netflix has used AI-generated images in a new true crime doc ‘WHAT JENNIFER DID’ to present Jennifer Pan as happy & confident before she was convicted of murder.
Use of AI tools is not disclosed in the credits.

If you want to improve, "drawing a lot" isn't the advice I'd give. Think while you draw. Study. Analyze. Tackle weaknesses. Challenge yourself. Try new approaches & techniques. If you're drawing a lot but doing it the same way over and over you're probably reinforcing bad habits.
Remember how when they first revealed FFXVI they had us believe Clive was gonna be this super angry edgy dude and then it turns out he's the softest fluffiest man with eyes you lose yourself in if
Hi, *raises hand*, this comes up way more often than it should, but digital 2D traditional animation is still hand-drawn, frame by frame, meticulously--it's just drawn on a drawing tablet/monitor instead of paper. The same principles and effort apply.
Are you telling me
@Adobe
is scraping people's data AS THEY WORK?? We're working on NDA'd projects, Adobe, what the hell are you thinking!? This absolutely needs to be removed immediately, it's a huge privacy and legal issue, machine learning has NO PLACE in your software.
Watch out for Adobe automatically Opting you In for “Machine learning” aka Ai. Also, tech companies that glorify “Opting out” options are using this to shift responsibility of Data mining onto US. Sneaky. Meanwhile Ai never forgets. It’s theatre.

Animators: no matter how many great drawings you have in an episode, people will somehow pick the most awkward off-model inbetweens to screenshot. Accept this fate. It's OK. I mean it's not OK but it's OK.
Animation gets these same jabs of disrespect from live action folks, that something somehow hasn't reached its pinnacle of storytelling till it's been made in to live action, and I find it very, very tiresome.
Frieren is, so far, one of the best animated shows I've watched in a long while. Story and direction are top-notch and with beautiful animation like this all over the place to boot.
This is super incorrect. The vast majority of character animation in 2D animated shows is simply drawn by hand w/o assist. There's no issue w/ using 3D assets or reference to assist w/ 2D work, or to mix 2D and 3D, or full 3D--but examples like below are the exception, not rule.
You just know studios are trying to figure out how to recapture the bizarre Barbenheimer phenomenon without realizing this kind of freak internet bullshittery can't be manufactured or folks will sniff it out and hate it instantly
Disney & Universal are paying lobbyists to watch over legislation that would bar them from using a lucrative state tax break if AI is used to displace workers in their film & TV productions.

Everyone on here who rightfully reacts with "wow this is fucking gross" I hope realizes this is in essence the same issue visual artists have been raising.
Every art form should be rising up together to stop AI/Machine Learning scrapers in their fucking tracks.
And just like that. The music industry is forever changed.
I recorded a verse, and had a trained AI model of Kanye replace my vocals.
The results will blow your mind. Utterly incredible.
One of the things I love about 2D animation is how shots like this that in live action or 3D you see all the time and don't really notice, but when it's done in 2D like this, every frame hand drawn, it suddenly has this awesome weight to it
My old Naruto fan animation I was doin for a while was great practice I feel I leveled up a lot w/ but also got some eyeballs on my work that was an important step that eventually lead to Castlevania. 😄
I hate to get real on here for a minute, but... this is not the first death threat I've received for the show. And it probably won't be the last. I generally try and brush it off, but it never really stops being unsettling.
So excited for Klaus! Please support this gorgeous 2D animated film (yes, 2D!)!! They're using a unique technique to paint the lighting on each frame of animation. Came out beautifully! There's nothing else quite like it!
after a super mysterious but VERY talented carpenter is discovered by an ambitious postman, it was clear that winter in Smeerensburg would never be the same again. Klaus is coming coming to cinemas 8th november and netflix 15th november - just in time for festivities to begin ✨
HEY Y'ALL! I'm looking for in-house 2D animators with a strong handle on anime style work to bolster our ranks on shows like Castlevania! These positions are at our Austin, TX location. If you're interested, go to our website (mutuals feel free to DM!):
Any actor, director, artist, etc who goes along with this is shooting themselves, their colleagues, and the future of every other talented individual who wants to be a filmmaker right in the foot.
Generative AI is theft on a massive scale, period.
OpenAI has scheduled meetings with Hollywood studios & talent agencies to encourage filmmakers & studios to use AI in their work.
They have already opened their AI video-making software to a few big-name actors and directors.

In Castlevania ep5 of s2, there's a flashback of Dracula where I designed a whole suit of armor you never get to see 'cuz it's all under his cloak. :D But hey, that doesn't mean y'all don't get to see it!
Just a reminder: I don't care what school you went to. I don't even look at it when hiring. I only care about your portfolio or demo reel. If you can learn without going to one of these insanely expensive schools, do it.
Calarts students are protesting their $50.8K annual tuition. But really, US animation students everywhere should be protesting. Here are some other animation school tuitions for 2019-20 programs:
RISD: $51.8K
Pratt: $51.7K
Ringling: $48K+ (est)
SVA: $44K
MCAD: $39.9K
SCAD: 37.5K
Good thread! For complicated action there's an art to sliding the background behind a character to imply a camera move in 2D animation. It's easy for new digital animators w/ an endless canvas to default to B, but often times the solutions forced on paper animation are still best
Maybe an unpopular opinion: BG3 is cool but I don't necessarily need every new game that comes out to chase BG3 nor do I think it's healthy for the industry to lean on 100+ hour games with 6+ year development cycles
@CorridorDigital
Y'all are helping to promote industrial scale intellectual property theft and a direct attack on the livelihoods of the people whose work was stolen to fuel these things--and it sucks a lot, guys
I dunno man I think it's just a fact that anything you would do with this in live action, any story, any tone, would just turn out 100x better animated
"The Legend of Zelda" live-action film has just been announced.
Directed by Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Maze Runner).
Produced by Shigeru Miyamoto & Avi Arad.
A handful of cuts I jumped in to help with during the cocky Trevor brawl in ep7 of s3 of Castlevania! 😄
I love when I get to draw Trevor with a smug grin. 😏
Shout out to the inbetween crew for their lovely work interpreting my often very rushed inbetween guides! 😂
Castlevania Season 3 is coming back March 5th!! We've been working our butts off on it and I can't wait for y'all to check it out!!
(Hope y'all enjoy the official poster art for season 3! I've somehow kept up the tradition of squeezing in time to do it for this season, too. 😄)
I dunno, the way they're promoting the use of "AI" as a solution to their labor shortage in a short designed to make you sympathize with a *robot dog* to tug on easy heart strings while pushing the agenda feels kinda gross
Maybe just pay people better, damn
It's wild how folks have so little understanding or respect for the massive amount of work that goes in to animation that this absurd competition even crossed their mind, much less made it out here
Pink Floyd are inviting a new generation of animators to enter a competition to create music videos for any of the 10 songs on the iconic album, The Dark Side Of The Moon. For more information and to enter go to
SEASON 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne is OFFICIALLY IN PRODUCTION!!!
Those are ACTUAL Storyboards, Layouts, and Animation for Season 2. 😁
.... Sorry to keep you waiting. Won't be quite so long this time. 😌✌️
Castlevania: Nocturne SEASON 2 is OFFICIALLY in production.
Thank you to all of the fans - new and returning - who tuned into watch Castlevania: Nocturne. If you still haven't given the series a try, now's your moment.
Castlevania: Nocturne is now streaming, only on Netflix.
5 years ago today, Castlevania s1 released on Netflix. Our 1st series, and an adult animated video game adaptation of all things.. Just 5 years ago, video game adaptations were considered cursed, and adult animated shows were mostly comedy shows. I remember being terrified--
Wait till the folks who think 30 year old artists are close to expiration find out many of their favorite anime are animated by some folks in their 50's+
Hayao Miyazaki is “concerned” by Studio Ghibli’s decision not to market his upcoming final film, ‘How Do You Live.’
“I wonder if it'll be okay without publicity. I am beginning to worry…”

Multiple studios are exploring using AI to generate scripts based on books and other public domain IP.
The studios reportedly plan to hire writers to rewrite those AI scripts when the writers’ strike ends.

I like to think about all the separate parts that go in to a shot like this:
12 or so cels of Dio for his jump
1 hand-painted foreground building he lands on
1 Jotaro cel
3 hand-painted cityscape paintings
Everything moved independently frame-by-frame to achieve the parallax
Fun fact: Episode 7 of Castlevania season 2, being the incredibly important episode that it is, has 631 shots--more than double the average per episode (~300). The episode required a huge team of amazing artists & animators to complete, all of whom I can't thank enough. 🙏🙏
Castlevania Season 2 will be on Netflix on 10/26, just two days away! It's also my birthday today so here's a present from me to you: Castlevania Season 2 poster art! Hope you like the new season!!
It's hard watching millions of peoples' work fed to software in the most rapid case of creative theft and exploitation in history, and then just see countless dipshits in YouTube and Twitter comments celebrating it
The Castlevania Universe is getting even bigger.
An all new series starring Richter Belmont (the son of Sypha and Trevor) and Maria Renard, set in France during the French Revolution, is currently in the works.

Here's a run of cuts I key animated for Castlevania ep9 of s3! I posted a snippet earlier, but figured the season's been out long enough to share more. 😀
I also storyboarded this fight (as well as most of the Lindenfeld parts of ep9)--maybe I'll share some if there's interest?
Now that I've been staring at it while making a gif, this is a good time to point out why animation is fucking hard: this frame appeared on screen for 1/12th of a second.
I can't believe it's been a year since we released the teaser for Castlevania: Nocturne! That was... right around the start of animation production?
But now.... Well... Keep an eye out for news very soon. 👁️👁️🌘🦇🔥🐦🪦
Hey artists:
Don't feel too bad about your shitposts
I've discovered artists from the weirdest, most random stuff that happened to be going around
Helps when your avatar is some of your cool art tho😆
I boarded 12 action sequences for Castlevania season 4💦, but when it came to animation, I focused much of my efforts in s4 doing character layouts and keys for drama shots in an effort to elevate the overall visuals of the show! Here's samples from ep01!
#CastlevaniaSpoilers
That was my first version of Photoshop and it had 90% of the features I use today but ran smooth as silk on my POS hand-me-down desktop, can we go back to that too
This shot of Alucard from season 2 was probably the first time he smiled genuinely in the series, so it was a little tricky for some folks to animate, & I decided to up jump in and animate it myself last-second. It's a simple shot but I'm glad I got to do it!
#Castlevania
This has solidified my feelings that the very core of AI ""art"" image generation, the way it was built, the way it's used, the entire attitude the users have about it and our art--it is all absolutely vile and disgusting.
JOB ALERT!!
We have a handful of full-time Storyboard Artist positions for the new Castlevania spin-off series to fill! If you're interested in throwing your hat in the ring, drop a link to your portfolio in the replies!
This was my first page of head sketches for Trevor Belmont once his design had been figured! It took time to figure out how to make him look grim-but-sexy from every angle (and also just how the hell to draw him, to this day he's one of the hardest to draw)
