Head of Service YP Mental Health & Exploitation. Restorative Practitioner. Working to improve the lives of children, YP and their families. Views are my own.
Friday, I bury my wonderful son, who took his own life and completed suicide. Please use these words, there is no shame or blame. He was a beautiful soul full of love and kindness. His friends created this tribute to him locally, they also came together to paint his coffin.
RANT : Child year 7 not been to school for 2 years, CP Plan, SEN, CCE wrong shoes they wrote to mum on Friday who says she gets paid on 16th will sort. Now in isolation and I quote email ‘even though we know it will be detrimental to him’ Give me strength !

This also applies to grief, I lost my son to suicide. I am not brave, I have no choice. I am not battling I am existing in exhaustion. But sending love and solidarity to you.
@CallTheMidwife1
you tackle the unthinkable with understanding. You show why women need a choice with raw emotion. You are the best programme and advocacy for women’s issues. I may sob but it’s in honour of your story telling.

Your insensitive comment is staggering and completely Inappropriate. If anyone has the resolve and dedication to change to change the world and violence against women it’s

. Look at her work and what she achieved before making your comment.
Most people who do not work in this field would not believe the level of sophistication and deceit that Organised Crime Groups use to entrap, violate and scare young people and keep them there. Every strategy meeting leaves it trail of vicarious trauma.
#CCE
#exploitation
Delivering exploitation training in school, young person “I don’t get it miss, if they are being exploited they have no choice, so why are they being criminalised ?” When I am Prime Minister I am going to change that.

#Exploitation
When you hear from your youth mentor tonight that the young person enjoyed their first night at boxing. He said no one had ever bothered to pick him up and take him to an activity before.

I know
@bespaceaware
have been championing this for ages, but please stop blaming parents, especially mothers for a lack of ‘parenting skills’ when their child is exploited. It’s called exploitation because no one has a choice.

Ending an exhausting week by bursting with pride reading a closure from one of my team. A years work from homeless exploited child to challenging services to get supported accommodation, successful PIP interview, part time voluntary work and education. Her feedback made me cry
Absolutely thrilled that the Serious Youth Violence Project I lead for

has been shortlisted for a CYP Now award, in the Youth Justice category.

@JoRDillon
My team have invented a strengths based Jenga we write the questions on the blocks. We play initially only for fun to build up rapport but often they can’t resist the questions.
@JoRDillon
Yes no problem, my team are Family Support Worker in the third sector they are so creative with young people. One used Spotify to choose songs and lyrics to reflect their feelings. It was so powerful 🌟
@DanielHugill
This is absolutely abhorrent that a child is reduced to this! But more importantly that a Head Teacher would allow his teachers to do this!
@_LisaCherry
needs to go and train this school in trauma informed approaches !
What I have noticed today is that when young people are compliant with the plan a professional can work with them, but when they are challenging or not doing what they are told, they are not children anymore. They are blamed. They got themselves into this was a quote.
@claireroberts01
@CopHonest
My experience of parents is that’s it’s totally devastating and they are powerless to stop it. The harm is from outside the home, not in it. A better understanding of contextual safeguarding and not pointing the finger of blame at the parent but working with them.
@jk_rowling
@DrJessTaylor
You have impeccable taste, I am half way through and seriously never felt so many emotions. Both of you are inspirational 💪💪💪
Attended the Medway missing and exploitation panel again today. No victim blaming language, putting child first and strong multi agency representation. Full of respect for the parents in impossible situations. Just need schools to stop excluding children at risk for a full house.
@SouthernWater
you need to hang your head in Shame, as well as the Tory MPs for voting down an amendment last year that would have stopped dumping raw sewage into rivers and coastal waters.

That’s a lovely idea, well done. Imagine a hotel who said because of the environmental waste we are making a donation to .... charity as we don’t supply them. I would like that.

Stressed, single mum two young children in the shopping trolly, look round to see they had both stuck always ultra to every part of their bodies and head. The steaming to detach was mortifying.

The books are inspiring, practice enhancing and a blueprint for systemic connectedness. Just imagine if all organisations were actually trauma informed and used your books. 🙏
So much more needs to be done for children that are missing due to exploitation. It’s just not good enough. 💔 It’s all I can think about and I am not their parent or carer 💔
Today’s trauma informed team meeting included Bacon Baps, Play doh, sparkle moments, reflection, appreciative enquiry and a manager that bursts with pride when she hears the voice of the child at the centre of humbling practice.

She is probably a scared and terrified abused woman. She need help she got it then the consequence of that could mean even more beatings when he gets out. This is complicated abuse don’t blame the victim get her support offer her understanding so she have the courage to leave.

I agree the staff are incredible, but 11 beds, one nurse, £46 resettlement ! This government really needs to properly fund and support these highly vulnerable people. This is so distressing to watch.

about the disgusting amounts of sewage discharge into the sea at Whitstable over the Christmas period.

Great thread, trauma informed knowledge and practice is invaluable to help deliver safety and connection.

books have reshaped my training and team meetings. Play-doh, sparkles, self regulation, doodles and care.
Knowing you are not going to see your elderly parents for 3 months is truly heartbreaking. My 87 year old dad cried today I just wanted to be able to hug him! My mum has dementia he can’t get out. He is a bloody hero ! 💔
This work is exasperating. You are challenging all the time, so you appreciate a call with a brilliant social worker who really understands

and that relational practice is at the heart of what we do and together we will make a difference for our young person

Reading this book was like a warming relationship, it has heart, it shows empathy and compassion. It excites you to new ways of being and builds hope and new knowledge.
This proud man just broke my heart. It’s a disgrace that the most vulnerable do not have enough to survive. I despair of this government. We need change.

opening my eyes to amazing new counties and loving the developing relationship between a father and son. Real parenting right there, not his friend his mentor. Sharing the ups and downs and learning from each other. 💖
Zoom fatigue! Interviewing all day again today for our brand new service for Kent and Medway. Working with young people who are involved in serious youth violence. Even had a virtual youth panel. Voice of young people is essential.
@Harr_Ferguson
Absolutely my team of family support workers in Kent are creative, passionate and achieve outstanding outcomes for the children and families they work with. They make a difference every day.
Had my first NHS responder alert, which resulted in a referral to adult social care and a safeguarding call to the coms team. Just shows how a sense of community is highlighting vulnerable people who may have slipped through the net.

An actual in person conference meeting people I have only seen on teams for 2 years. Hugging 🤗 This Injection of Connection has made me feel more alive than felt in a long time.
@StephenDrew72
Wow, just in your honesty in writing this shows what a wonderful and talented teacher you have been. I am sure that the current abhorrent climate of political nonsense and so much to do with this, rather than you. I am also sure you have inspired a generation of young people.
This morning spending an hour on Twitter looking at the wisdom of my connections restores my faith in the world. So many great people debating, fighting, challenging, studying promoting change in their families, communities, society and beyond. Thank you.

Not the voluntary sector, here I am and will be until my youth mentors finish late tonight. We have a rota in place all weekend so you can contact us.
