The FBI is in “tatters”? No. The only thing in tatters is the President’s respect for the rule of law. The dedicated men and women of the FBI deserve better.
Our President today not only chose a tyrant over his own Intel community, he chose Russia’s interests over the country he is sworn to protect. All Americans should raise their voices. Let the world know what we stand for.
“She’s not my type.” Our country’s president defends against an allegation of sexual assault by essentially saying that his accuser is not attractive enough for him to rape. Let that sink in. President Trump, you’re not America’s type.
Today our president called on his (recused) AG to shut down the investigation of his own campaign. As shocking as that is, what’s even more dangerous is that we’ve gotten used to it. The rule of law won’t evaporate overnight, but it can slip away—if we let it.
In a single day, POTUS turns a blind eye to the barbaric murder of journalist and we learn that he tried to order DOJ to go after his political adversaries. Is there no depth to which he will not sink? We can’t let him drag America down with him.
POTUS’ latest temper tantrum is not about border security. Like a spoiled two year old holding his breath, he is holding our nation hostage—trying to force taxpayers to foot the bill for his vanity project he promised Mexico would fund. Meanwhile, the country suffers.
Incomprehensible pain and loss at a high school, yet again, and it’s children who are the leading voices for action. Meanwhile, our president uses the tragedy to attack the investigation of a foreign adversary’s interference in our democracy. Shameful.
Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign - there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!
After avoiding service in Vietnam by getting a “bone spurs” note from his father’s doctor friend, POTUS now goes after a decorated war veteran who volunteered to risk his life for our country? Who represents the America we want to be?
POTUS embraces Putin yet again telling world he believes former KGB agent’s denial of attack on our election over our own Intel public servants, calling them “political hacks.” Disturbing and shamelessly unpatriotic, on Veterans Day no less.
While the absurd threat to impeach Rod Rosenstein will undoubtedly fail, using the Department of Justice as a prop for political theater does lasting damage to this vital democratic institution. The men and women of DOJ and the people of our country deserve better.
Democracy is only democracy if ALL eligible ballots are counted. It’s not just about Stacey Abrams or any particular candidate. It’s about our country’s fundamental promise to
#CountEveryVote
Wow! What happened to your big PROMISE that Mexico would pay for the wall? Siphoning $2.5 billion from our military you claim to love to pay for your vanity project is no VICTORY for America.
Wow! Big VICTORY on the Wall. The United States Supreme Court overturns lower court injunction, allows Southern Border Wall to proceed. Big WIN for Border Security and the Rule of Law!
Repeatedly trying to pervert DOJ into a weapon to go after his adversaries, and now shamelessly complaining that DOJ should protect his political allies to maintain his majority in the midterms, is nothing short of an all out assault on the rule of law.
Two long running, Obama era, investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department. Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff......
This shouldn’t get lost in the avalanche of crazy. The wall we need is between DOJ and the White House. The foundation of our democracy- the rule of law- depends on it.
The arc of the moral universe bends toward justice, but it doesn’t get there on its own. “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
POTUS on 12/28: “I have the absolute right to do what I want with the Justice Department.” Today he slanders career DOJ professionals as “deep state,” calls for prison for a political opponent, and tries to sic DOJ on a potential witness against him. Beyond abnormal; dangerous.
Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols. She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act? Also on Comey & others
When our children ask us what we did when innocents were massacred, the president fomented racism, and immigrants were caged and cast as sub-human, what will we tell them? Each of us owns our individual response. And our collective response answers who we are as a country.
“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
After being caught secretly strong arming Ukraine, POTUS is trying to hypnotize the American people into believing it can’t be wrong if he says it out loud. And if he actually thinks he has the “absolute right” to sic foreign powers on political rivals, he’s even more dangerous.
As the President of the United States, I have an absolute right, perhaps even a duty, to investigate, or have investigated, CORRUPTION, and that would include asking, or suggesting, other Countries to help us out!
For 27 years, I was privileged to work with the thousands of career DOJ lawyers and FBI agents who work hard every day to keep our country safe, our rights protected, and the rule of law intact. They deserve better than this.
So sad that the Department of “Justice” and the FBI are slow walking, or even not giving, the unredacted documents requested by Congress. An embarrassment to our country!
To the career men and women of DOJ, you are both the backbone and the heart of the Department. Your noble dedication to the rule of law is the foundation of our republic.
BREAKING: Now, all four federal prosecutors on the Stone case have asked the judge to withdraw from the case.
Michael Marando joins the rest of his team including Aaron Zelinsky, Jonathan Kravis, and Adam Jed.
Trump fires a US Atty investigating his inner circle, his AG misleads the public about it, and Trump’s relentless assault on the rule of law continues. Trump throws one body blow after another at DOJ, but the career men and women who fight for justice every day are stronger.
We should not lose sight of why POTUS fired the AG – because he wants a political crony to protect him from the investigation of his own campaign. The rule of law is disappearing before our eyes. My column from a year ago when POTUS began trying to humiliate the AG into resigning.
Hard to know which is more dangerous—jeopardizing our most sensitive national security information or so cavalierly lying about it. Have we lost our ability to be shocked?
Despite relentless attacks on our democratic institutions and norms, our resilience has kept our country strong. But we will remain so only if we strive to live up to the American values that make us who we are. We’re better than this.
Make no mistake about what’s at stake here: firing Rosenstein would be the same unconscionable assault on the rule of law as firing Mueller. He controls scope of the Mueller investigation and what becomes public. Both D’s and R’s should reject sham excuses to fire Rosenstein.1/2
Our country is forcing young migrant children, separated from their parents, sometimes sick and always frightened, to sleep in filth on concrete floors without basic care. What are we becoming? Where is our humanity?
.
@FoxNews
-FBI’s Andrew McCabe, “in addition to his wife getting all of this money from M (Clinton Puppet), he was using, allegedly, his FBI Official Email Account to promote her campaign. You obviously cannot do this. These were the people who were investigating Hillary Clinton.”
What kind of country do we want to be? All the marching, organizing, and protesting will just be noise if we don’t all go to the polls on Tuesday to answer that question. VOTE!
John Lewis:”When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to do something.” Lewis dedicated his life to fearlessly holding our country to its promise of equal justice. We can honor his legacy by answering his call
Today, while we celebrate fatherhood, our country is systematically ripping children from the arms of their parents. What will we allow our nation to become?
Today President Trump brought his divisive scare tactics to a race already plagued by voter suppression and misuse of office. Georgians have the opportunity to reject the politics of fear and make history. Elect Stacey Abrams!
@staceyabrams
This is a screaming red siren, but in the daily barrage of crazy, can we hear it?Trump is not only trying to rewrite history of Russia’s intervention in 2016, he is now using the power of the presidency to conceal their 2020 scheme to re-elect him.Dangerous!
Any redactions that the AG makes to the Mueller report provided to Congress should be narrow and specifically justified. America needs the whole truth.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead. Parkland students, you are leading the way. And we are with you.

Congratulations to Judge Garland and the outstanding team nominated to lead DOJ.A highly respected jurist and dedicated public servant,Judge Garland will ensure that DOJ earns the trust of the people it serves.Under his leadership, the Justice Department will live up to its name.
From across the political spectrum, there has been an outpouring of respect, gratitude and admiration for the late Sen. McCain. Even in death, he continues to serve our country by unifying us in the definition of true statesmanship.
People are dying. Everyone is anxious, many downright scared. Healthcare workers are literally risking, and sometimes losing, their lives to care for us. We don’t have enough ventilators or PPE. And our president is reveling in his press conference TV ratings?
“President Trump is a ratings hit. Since reviving the daily White House briefing Mr. Trump and his coronavirus updates have attracted an average audience of 8.5 million on cable news, roughly the viewership of the season finale of ‘The Bachelor.’ Numbers are continuing to rise...
17 years ago, in the face of unfathomable loss, we put down our differences and united in consoling the grief-stricken, honoring noble heroes, and strengthening our resolve. Our country’s worst day brought out our best. We are one America.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Edmund Burke. Standing idly by as the moral fiber of our country is shredded by unapologetic racism may seem politically expedient to some, but it is ruinous for our nation.
I am supporting Joe Biden because I trust him.I trust him to always put the country’s interests before his own;to tell us the truth;to appeal to our best, not our worst, instincts;to unite rather than divide us;and to always treat the presidency as a privilege not an entitlement.
In midst of a pandemic where thousands of Americans have died and millions are suffering, only our current president would claim that he’s the victim of a unifying message from a former president. Six months from today, we can end all of this and summon the best in all of us.
.
@PeteHegseth
“Oh bye the way, I appreciate the message from former President Bush, but where was he during Impeachment calling for putting partisanship aside.”
@foxandfriends
He was nowhere to be found in speaking up against the greatest Hoax in American history!
Today we honor those who gave their lives to protect each of us and the ideals on which our country was founded. Their selfless sacrifice deserves not only our gratitude, but also our commitment to continuously strive to live up to those ideals.
There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor politic not popular, but he must take it because his conscience tells him it is right.” MLK’s words are the final instruction to Senators who have sworn “to do impartial justice.”
Trump tries to wrap himself in faux love for our military but looks the other way when Russia puts a bounty on American service members’ lives. It’s time for a president who will stand with our allies and stand up to our adversaries.
EXCLUSIVE: U.S. spies and commandos warned months ago of Russian bounties on U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Trump has yet to act against Russia w/

There is some good news amidst the chaos: the Senate passed a bipartisan sentencing reform bill. While there is still much more to do, it is a step in the right direction to make our system more just and our communities more safe.
On this 99th anniversary of the 19th amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote, let’s resolve to mark the 100th anniversary in 2020 by uniting our voting voices in a deafening roar on Election Day.
#WomensEqualityDay
We are not just bringing in another new year; in 2020, our collective resolution will shape the definition of America for years to come. Who will we choose to be?
Too much is at stake for our president to treat criminal justice reform as a vehicle for celebrity photo ops. My thoughts on his record and what’s needed for real reform here.
Never give up, never give in, never give out. Keep the faith, and keep your eyes on the prize. Together, we can redeem the soul of America.
#goodtrouble
“There was nothing unfair, phony, or disgraceful about the investigation or prosecution.”Judge Jackson at Stone sentencing. Words you would expect to hear from DOJ leadership, but at least the judge stood up for the integrity of line prosecutors relentlessly attacked by POTUS.
56 years ago, John Lewis led the march across Edmund Pettus Bridge to demand full citizenship. We honor his courage and sacrifice by actively protecting the vote he fought to secure.
#BloodySunday
This is the AG demeaning the career men and women of his own department, comparing them to preschoolers. These dedicated public servants are working hard every day to try to get it right. They deserve his respect, not disdain.
Barr delivering a broadside to career prosecutors tonight, & making the case that the AG intervening in cases is appropriate and proper. Says letting junior people set agenda "might be a good philosophy for a Montessori preschool, but it is no way to run a federal agency.”
DOJ independence is essential to our nation’s promise of impartial justice. It is not a tool for POTUS to use for retribution or camouflage. My thoughts here.
Hundreds of years of brutal racial injustice distilled in a 9 minute video where the world witnessed George Floyd’s life callously stolen. His life mattered, as did all the victims before him where there was no video to reveal the truth. Let this be the beginning of real change.
My friend and former colleague John Walsh is running for Senate in Colorado. We served together at DOJ in the Obama administration. John is a man of integrity and action. He is a true leader and would be an outstanding US Senator.

“It falls on all of us, regardless of our race or station, to work together to create a ‘new normal’ in which the legacy of bigotry and unequal treatment no longer infects our institutions or our hearts.”
A friend writes with humbling courage of the unfathomable death of her college son to impulsive suicide. He was an extraordinary young man in every way, and then he was gone. We have so much more to learn about suicide.
He will put an end to the chaos and recklessness that is inflicted on us every day, and bring steady, thoughtful leadership to our nation. Our country needs Joe Biden. And I am proud to support him.
Avril Haines will be an outstanding DNI. Smart, principled, and deeply knowledgeable, she will ensure that our intelligence community operates apolitically protecting America’s interests. And she just happens to be the first woman to serve as DNI.
Avril Haines was confirmed as the director of national intelligence, keeping alive a tradition of confirming top security officials on Inauguration Day.
Peaceful demonstrators in Lafayette Park demanding that our country finally live up to its founding promise that “all men are created equal”—gassed and swept away on the very ground where enslaved people were sold as chattel. It’s not just history, and it has to stop. Now
While our country can survive four years of our current president, at the end of eight years, I fear that we will not recognize the nation that we have become. But the future of our country is up to us. We have a choice. And my choice is Joe Biden.

He will utilize his vast experience to restore America’s credibility and position of moral authority in the world. Our allies will trust us again, and our adversaries will not doubt our strength.
But make no mistake—Joe Biden is far more than just a “good man.“ While serving in the Obama administration, I had the opportunity to observe Vice President Biden grapple with some of our country‘s greatest challenges, at home and abroad.
I am not a political person. But there is too much at stake now for any of us to sit on the sidelines. This is indeed a battle for the soul of America —who we are, or at least who we have always aspired to be.
