Let's be very clear. We have no evidence that teenagers have ever benefited from SSRI drugs. We only have evidence of systemic fraud, increased suicidality and the potential for permanent health effects- including permanent sexual dysfunction. The dark ages are over.

Yes, teenagers with clear/classic/severe psych disorders do desperately need meds- but not 2,000,000/not 20% college students. Most teens on meds have distress/not disorder & do better with psychotherapy or watchful waiting. Meds useful for the few can be harmful for the many.

Neutrality in psychotherapy is: 1️⃣Utmost respect for our patient’s autonomy & right to self-determination 2️⃣Recognizing we are of many minds & working in a way that makes it possible to hear from all of them That it. That’s really it. What other nonsense did someone tell you?

Our sense of self develops in relationship. What get broken in relationship must be repaired in relationship. You can get what you can get from reading, study, reflection. I highly recommend it. But it is in no way a substitute for a meaningful psychotherapy relationship.

@JonathanShedler so, a human who reads psychology books and starts doing the work on his own & grows & becomes more "whole" is not doing psychotherapy? u may say: but is doing it in relationship to other humans! ok. but, the work is done based on the info from books & his reflective abilities!

There two truths. One is that relationships grow through rupture and repair (I literally just posted about it on Substack). Another is that some bells can’t be unrung. https://t.co/evUx3hCdCv

Hilarious to read the comments on this. Folks, guess what: people fight. Sometimes they turn into ugly versions of themselves. Occasionally they feel threatened and say nasty things. Anyone who thinks this should be relationship-ending hasn't known many longterm relationships

I’m coming around to the view that the central challenge of what we might call the “psychology project” is carving out a discipline of psychology and psychotherapy that is distinct from what we might call “morality projects.” It is only recently in human history that we have

Spicy subject 🌶️ but identity stability is a function of the ego. Staying cool when identity is challenged demonstrates a strong and healthy ego. If you get tilted convincing someone how to perceive you, that can demonstrate a fragile or underdeveloped ego.

The mental health industry has declared war on teenage girls. They're being diagnosed & drugged for experiencing puberty. For feeling deeply. For having the emotional intelligence that makes women exceptional. Every articulate description of pain becomes diagnostic criteria.

This is how a genuine expert discusses narcissism. If you listen, you might notice that real expertise sounds nothing like the therapy-slop you hear from online influencers. The entire podcast episode is filled with rich information.
