I was shocked to receive the Richard Langford Service Award from @Walk4Pics and the @VUMC CIBS Center. I did not know Richard, an ICU survivor who lived with PICS, but by all accounts he was an incredible person and it's special to receive an award named for him. @UCFNursing

PICS has been impacting the lives of ICU survivors for decades, long before the term was coined to describe the collective residual health issues. My ICU event was in 2009 and there is no area of my life that has not been touched by #PICS. PICS changed my life beyond recognition.

The psychological toll of medical trauma can manifest as hypervigilance, where patients constantly anticipate pain or bad news, impairing daily functioning and relationships. Awareness is key to fostering empathy in medical settings. #MentalHealthMatters
