Our new insights into anther dehiscence by @AKampova now out in PNAS! Pollen release is triggered by stomata-driven desiccation that induces sudden programmed cell death in whole anther. Thanks to Matyáš Fendrych and Moritz K Nowack for the collaboration!

Our new paper: auxin has effect on regeneration in Chara braunii; at least one its PIN is PM localized with auxin-transporting activity and distribution correlated to acid bands in Chara cells. IAA application induces MAPKs within minutes and accelerates cytoplasmic streaming.

In alga Chara braunii, auxin influences apex regeneration, streaming, MAP4K and RAF kinases; Chara PINs are on plasma-membrane and deal with auxin! Thanks to @AndreKuhn8 (@dolfweijers lab), Tom Fisher (John Bowman lab), and @AdrijanaSmoljan (@FrimlLab) for nice collaboration!.

📣A new preprint from our group! .No, this is not an image of some strange octopus but an anti-CbPINa staining in the antheridial filament of streptophyte alga Chara braunii. If you want to know more about auxin and PINs in Chara check out it at:

Structure of LYCHOS, which we've shown as the direct animal homolog of plant PINs ( was definitely described! LYCHOS also binds IAA, but its transport has not been demonstrated. But transport of enigmatic substrate is necessary for its cholesterol binding.

We are thrilled beyond words to see our LYCHOS (GPR155) publication out today in @Nature. 🥳. “LYCHOS is a human hybrid of a plant-like PIN transporter and a GPCR”. 🧵.

Induction of PCD in anthers can cause precocious anther opening, even in the environment of over-saturated humidity, which is absolutely restrictive for anther opening in wild-type plants. Taken together, both transpiration and PCD are involved in the dehiscence regulation.

The rate of anther opening is strongly correlated with the density of stomata on its surface. Stomata-mediated transpiration is the key step in the regulation of anther opening.

Only 20 minutes is needed for anther opening in #Arabidopsis! Timelapse done by a vertical spinning-disk microscopy on flowers attached to plants. Specific desiccation of anther tissue vs. a fully watered filaments is clearly visible.

#PREPRINT A century of debate: Is anther opening a passive or plant-regulated process? My PhD student @AKampova showed: stomata-driven desiccation induces very fast PCD in anther walls, which complete the job! Thanks to collabs @matesakf and @MoritzNowack.
