Great win by CITY tonight, which was far more fun than the massive heart attack I had in Schlafly afterwards. Out of surgery, feeling ok and grateful for the staff there and friends who literally saved my life tonight.
Well I can't say that Saturday night I expected to be walking out of here, but here we are. I won't bore anyone with specifics but I survived something a very large majority don't. Thanks to everyone who sent well wishes, came by, etc. It means more than you'll ever know. And…
They aren't from here, they work here. If YOU got offered free tickets to watch the greatest soccer player of all time but had to slap on an Inter Miami hat for a couple hours to do it, you would say no? I mean if this were the Cubs, Blackhawks or Sporting Kansas that's a…
Thank you so much to
@stlCITYsc
and
@MattSebek
for the really nice surprise today. I'm lucky to be here and lucky to have such a wonderful club to root for.
Well, this is interesting, especially since there are questions specifically about how the USOC decision impacted my choice to opt-out of LC in the survey. Hopefully people's voices will be heard and more importantly, it will make a difference going forward.
USLC is not a minor league. It's an alternative to MLS in non-MLS cities. Could you call it "lower league" since it's classified as DII as opposed to MLS, which is DI? Sure. But this isn't baseball and Indy Eleven is not owned or affiliated with a larger club. Bad take imo.
For those of us at the match yesterday who got to cheer when Carolyn, Matt Sebek, Peter Wood, etc walked out to chat with fans, we had Kansas fans asking "who are those people?" and when we explained, they were like... "wow they come talk to the fans like that?". It was awesome.
Thank you to everyone who believed in us and helped make our inaugural season so incredible. Together, we’ve built something special for our CITY and we’re just getting started.
See you at CITYPARK for Season Two.
#AllForCITY
If this club starts the season with a Dyhr-Parker-Nilsson-Totland back four with Markanich-Hiebert-Yaro-Nerwinski as the depth then this offseason has been a major win on the backline for CITY. Big credit to Lutz & Co. for addressing needs.
@abby621
just dropped off a very, very nice care package and signed notes & cards from her and a whole bunch of the CITY Content Creator community. Thanks so much to them and thanks to everyone who has wished me well since Saturday night. Means more than you know. Hoping to be…

@stlCITYPARK
with jaw-dropping 20-foot LED video walls, 360 degrees of in-stadium LED ribbon boards, and 375 additional Samsung TVs–among other things.
Amateur side Foro SC with 10 men just knocked off the defending MLS Next Pro champions Austin FC II!!!! That's one of the greatest upsets in the history of this tournament.
Ok
@MattSebek
, you've got like 4 months, I'm sure that's PLENTY of time to coordinate a pre-match drone show flying around over CITYPARK that spells out "CITY" or looks like the crest, right? 😆
The overreacting is predictable but disappointing. Is CITY struggling currently? Of course. But it's a long season and there's still plenty of time to find their form. Remember we've still not had Parker Nilsson Louwen together on the field for a vast majority of the year. Let's…
Now that Nelly has delivered the match ball at a
@stlCITYsc
match (finally!), what St. Louis icon is next on your wish list? I think my list would include Jon Hamm, John Goodman, Brett Hull, and (I don't think he's done it yet) Jayson Tatum.
The dropoff in play this year from AZ is really shocking. His regression has been so glaring when it seemed like he was ready to make another leap forward. Incredibly disappointing this season.
Site update - you see Trent's tent at every Louligan Street Party, now you can find
@ColtreKicks
on the listing of StL merch. You can also visit him @ . Here's some shoes he did for my wife this season - they were all white…
@ThePrideCincy
I'll take 790 million dollars for our city and the memory of winning one of these over getting to watch a franchise with a .454 lifetime winning percentage and 0 championships any day of the week.
@tomtimm
with a stat in his article tonight I couldn't believe when I read it but it is true.... Indiana Vassilev has played in every CITY match they've ever had. All 34 MLS matches last year, the USOC matches, Leagues Cup, Playoffs and CCC on Tuesday.
2 MINUTES. That's how much time today's ExtraTime podcast discussed the MLS/USOC issue. 30 seconds of reading the MLS statement and 90 seconds of Wiebe expressing mild disappointment. Not a word from Doyle or Gass. No debate, no discussion, nothing. They should be embarrassed.
No disrespect for a fellow St. Louisan but the award is "Coach of the Year". Not "Most Improved Coach of the Year" or "Comeback COTY". If you have the MVP on your team, you SHOULD be good. The vote is about 1 year, not "well look how bad they were last year and now they're good".
One year ago today, we got a free unintended tour of the basement
@Schlafly
due to the tornados prior to the FC Cincinnati match with several hundred other CITY fans. Still one of my favorite nights as a CITY fan, seeing 19k+ still in the stands after a 2-3 hour weather delay and…
I mean, having this much noise from away supporters in your own stadium speaks volumes about the actual "support" from their own fans that team from kansas gets.
STL fans were loud on Saturday at Children’s Mercy Park.
Here is a clip with their sound in the background after Totland’s equalizer. Sound captured by a camera from the opposite side of the stadium.

The 2024 CITY Content Creator Charity Challenge is set! We have 15 competitors playing to win $1000 for a charity of their choice ($500 for 2nd, $250 for 3rd) by guessing CITY's goals scored for each MLS match. Here's the list of entrants and the charity they're playing for.…
In STL we have 20+ soccer podcasts. We have multiple soccer live streamers, YouTubers, etc. We have entire websites devoted to soccer with talented writers providing analysis and insight. What we're missing is a weekly "whiparound style" look at ALL of STL soccer outside of just…
The

should just have a Summer Classic during one of the league's cups matches, a la the Winter Classic soccer match fundraiser. I'd much rather go and support that than League's Cup, and the irony of it is that at the Winter Classic everyone gets to participate if…
It's been a very quiet 24 hours from Wiebe and Doyle. I know it can't be easy to criticize your boss, but if they want to have any integrity as members of the US soccer media, they need to address the MLS US Open Cup decision and not go into hiding.
Confirmed soccer trips for the wife & I for the rest of this year:
5/18: CITY @ FC Cincinnati
7/27: Northern Colorado @ Forward Madison
10/19: CITY @ Minnesota United
Still debating:
7/20: CITY @ kansas
8/24: CITY @ Portland
Where are you planning to visit this season?
MASSIVE props to my buddies Mando and Dan, the
@cityrefs
for organizing their charity Cornhole tournament. Getting the STL content creator community together for great causes and to meet everyone was such a blast.
Gee, I wonder who he's referring to...
“You won a conference, you kept the full team together, losing one guy who played a lot of games (Niko Gioacchini) and you added a good group of players, and there is still somebody out there who thinks you finish 12th?” Pfannenstiel said.…
I've been generally ok with the officiating so far in CITY's season but tonight was a clear example of a ref being in a bigger situation than he could handle and losing control of the match. Hopefully this is the end of the replacements.
Biggest takeaway from the CITY match for me today - Kijima looks more than capable of playing a not insignificant number of minutes this year. He looks like a perfect combo of match awareness and technical skill to adapt to whatever role he's asked to play.
Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Brazil, Czechia, Canada, South Africa, Switzerland, Germany, etc. - that's a lot of flags for the
@StLouligans
to hang on the north end but it's great it incorporate all of the cultures these players bring to CITY.
Had an awesome opportunity to watch the Champions League final on Saturday with several STL soccer legends including Bill McDermott. Pretty amazing to sit next to him and listen to his commentary live and in person.
Not often do we describe a CITY side as lifeless, but that was certainly the case tonight. Wentzel played well for his first match with the big club but the lack of offensive ideas and connection were shocking.
"I thought we were going to Kansas again".... Lutz is the man.
Also, I know it's gonna be the night after an emotional match vs. TTFK but surely we can get 10k there for a playoff game, no?
“Scared money don’t make money.” - Benny Feilhaber
The first selections in our pick-your-opponent playoff format certainly didn’t disappoint. 👀
It all starts with the Conference Quarterfinals this weekend!
Sad to see him go, excited for the opportunity this gives him but also what it can mean for CITY as a place that can help players achieve their career goals and become a desirable stop on their journey. Thanks Niko.

Ignoring the results on the pitch, there was so much to be proud of as a StL soccer fan yesterday. The city recognizing the Louligans and what they have done for the community was awesome and well deserved. You could tell how much it meant to

MASSIVE point tonight. Blom's lack of effort tracking back on HOU goal was almost a killer. Also, I know many are high on Celio but I've never been... his style just doesn't seem to translate to goals for us. With how CITY plays, give me Alm (when healthy) or Ostrak or Thor.
It's supposed to be cold tomorrow night, with a temp of about 38-39 degrees at the start but not even close to what we experienced in March vs San Jose. It was 27 at kickoff down to 22 by the end. Tomorrow night is nothing in comparison.
I mean that's just some straight up terrible goalkeeping. She's lined up way too far to the post, then somehow overdives(?) and alligator arms the save attempt? Air Bud would have at least gotten a paw on it.
As someone with a deep, lifelong loathing of the Cubs & their fanbase and the Blackhawks & their fans which has been there my whole life, the sudden and immediate level of pure, unfiltered hatred I have for Sporting Kansas and & their fans is surprising even to me, fueled by
It's going on 3 days since the MLS/USOC announcement and we have still had no comment or acknowledgment of it from
@andrew_wiebe
,
@MattDoyle76

. They're among the faces of MLS, being on AppleTV covering the league every matchday & multiple days during the week.
Here's what i wrote for the USOC question: "As a soccer fan in the US, it's vital that the growth of the game at all levels takes precedence over 1 league's desire for control and money. As a St. Louisan, where we've won 10 USOC titles, it's a disgrace to not have our MLS team…

Objectively, it's Mia Hamm. First woman ever inducted into the World Futbol HOF, STILL 3rd in int'l goals scored with 158 (hasnt played since 2004), 2x world player of the year, 2x WC, 2x Olympic Gold, 4x NCAA champion, 2x women's pro league champion.
BREAKING: St. Louis City has agreed a deal to acquire midfielder Chris Durkin from D.C United, per sources. STL add another key DM.
DC gets for winger Jared Stroud, CB Lucas Bartlett and $300k GAM. DC continue to overhaul roster. More change will come.
Everyone is getting WAY ahead of themselves on the Reus thing. Did people not learn their lesson with Roberto Firmino? Let's focus on Teuchert, which seems more likely than not at this point and if something else happens like Reus, wonderful. Don't get your hopes up prematurely.
@StuartHultgren
When I was at Lindenwood, people would say, "Where are you from?" and I'd say "Oh, across the river", to which the reply was usually like "What, like Hazelwood?" and then I'd leave. 99% sure Missourians think the Metro East is some sort of uninhabited wasteland from which no one…
A slight delay in updating the standings for obvious reasons this week, but we had more correct guesses Saturday than for any match so far this year. Follow along at … as STL content creators fight it out for donations to their favorite charities.
This is probably the worst STL-based take outside of the infamous RFT "Everyone Should Sit Down" article earlier in the year. It's year 1, and the success CITY had was 100% unexpected. Paying high-priced players (esp in y1) goes against trying to build a club that's sustainable.
Had a very fun evening at Schlafly tonight at Lutz's book signing and I got to ask him if he just got into hockey since moving here or did that happen before... He said he's been a hockey fan for years and that his wife is also and having a team in town is just a bonus.
MLS regular season is 34 matches long. We're 5 matches in. At the pace some parts of the fanbase are going with their outrage, they're gonna burn out before the end of the season. Manage your minutes, people. It's a long season.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, in all of MLS does in-stadium food like CITYPARK does. Having a James Beard award winner in charge of the culinary experience and featuring nothing but local restaurants is next level and this coming season they've elevated it even higher.

Others have said it far better than I can, but the US Open Cup Matters. Completely onboard with a boycott of League's Cup as well as fully supportive of those in the STL content creator community who choose not to discuss/cover it.

pitch by, in their words, "that team out east". I don't just want CITY to win, I want to drive a nail in the coffin of SK's playoff hopes. I want all the excuses their fans used in May (midweek game, missing players, backup goalie, the ref, etc.) to go up in flames.
