Democratic State Rep Sharon Steckman offering amendment that strikes everything in the bill except the section creating a task force. "There is no reason for the rest of the bill." After task force spends this year studying AEAs, #ialegis can come back next year and act.

Iowa House debating House Republicans' AEA bill, which diverts from the governor's proposal. Rep. Skyler Wheeler: This bill does not cut a single AEA job and does not change special education in Iowa. Includes operational sharing and creates a task force to study AEAs. #ialegis

Siegrist acknowledged the bill "gives me some heartburn in some areas" but he does support it. The task force will help state figure out how to improve special education in Iowa. "Nothing changes with special education" under this bill, he claims.

Here's your reminder that Ms. Hinson and her husband took out a PPP loan and it was cancelled. She isn't paying it back. Apparently you pay back a loan unless you are Ms. Hinson. Her fake outrage would be more interesting if she wasn't a hypocrite.

If you take out a loan, you pay it back. There’s no such thing as “canceling” student loan debt.

Not one Iowa Senate Republican voted against a blood donation bill that the Iowa Medical Society and every major blood bank opposed. My reporting on a low-profile bill that says a lot about #ialegis culture, with video highlights from the Senate debate:

Laura Belin: The Iowa Senate debate over a blood donation bill revealed much about legislative culture in the eighth year of a GOP trifecta.

Iowa Republicans are fast-tracking a bill from Gov. @kimreynoldsia that defines “man” and “woman” in state law. It’s been panned by opponents as “LGBTQ erasure” and a violation of privacy, while the governor’s office coined it ...

The governor is doubling down on her proposal to gut the Area Education Agencies, hoping an ad campaign will turn R lawmakers away from their constituents and get them back under her thumb. Here’s why so many Iowans are speaking out against dismantling the AEAs:

So she is assuming the House and the Senate will just rubber stamp whatever she wants. Is that the way democracy works??? As Kim Reynolds pitches special education changes, Department of Education posts 29 new jobs
