The Legislature can spend 99 percent of estimated revenue. Republicans spent 82 percent and socked away the rest, calling it a surplus. Maybe you wanted your tax dollars spent on schools, etc. Instead, they’ll be used to cover tax cuts for Kim’s donors. This is Iowa.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Statehouse Republicans said they planned to pursue more tax cuts in the upcoming legislative session, after the governor’s office announced Iowa ended the fiscal year with a $1.83 billion surplus.
