Victim blaming, geopolitical edition.
National Security Advisor @MikeWaltz47: "I don't think anyone should be criticizing the President for trying to drive this to a diplomatic solution. And what he said today is, why hasn't President Zelenskyy tried to end this war for the betterment of his country?"

This is an excellent and highly informative read.
I recently had the privilege of getting together with the Canadian Club at Cambridge University to talk about dramatic recent changes in the relationship between Canada and the United States. Here are the speaking notes which summarize the presentation.

Fascinating gamble to assume the opponent's grasp and recognition of complex issues and connection with global leaders is a political weakness at this moment. Will be interesting to see how Cdn voters respond.
Carbon Tax Carney's con job. One way or another, he'll make you pay more for your gas, heat, and groceries. Just. Like. Justin.

To be so far apart, Shapiro and Atkins had to know last year that they likely weren't going to get a deal done. And yet they didn't deal him at the deadline or over the winter when they had a year of control to offer and a far more valuable trade asset.
Were Vladdy and the #BlueJays close in negotiations? “No.”

I think it’s time we talk about enriching uranium in Canada 1. Get full value add from our uranium 2. Provide a friendly alternative to the dozens of countries now interested in nuclear 3. Maintain energy security as we start using reactors that need it https://t.co/NbDPdpUfLt

Canada’s enrichment potential is not only a crucial asset for its allies but also a strategic move for ensuring the security and resilience of its own nuclear power fleet.

Very smart thread here from @BrianDijkema on unions' political inclinations
Working class realignment = major divisions in executive support for political coalitions. Public sector goes left, private sector unions right. Pragmatic building trades tend to go straight right for reasons @vcmancinelli describes. What’s spoken of less is the division b/w…

Today’s delay buys time. It doesn’t end the threat. Canada needs a New National Policy of nation-building: dismantling internal barriers, welcoming investment, building new infrastructure, ending business-bashing and regulatory paralysis, and taking our resources to the world.
The tariff delay is good news, but we need more information about Mr. Trump’s Truth Social posting that the tariffs “will be paused for a 30 day period to see whether or not a final Economic deal with Canada can be structured. FAIRNESS FOR ALL”

If Loblaws wanted to fix its reputation with Canadians overnight, they'd drop the price of all Canadian-made goods by 10-25% and add flags of origin to every price tag.

Canada and Denmark share a 1.2 km long land border on Hans Island since we ended the Whisky War in 2022. So technically we could join the European Union.
