It’s morning in Australia. I’ve just seen my 10yo off to school. I have no fear she won’t come home, we can’t comprehend school shootings here, because although our politics isn’t perfect our country managed to come together and basically take guns off our streets. Just do it.
I am fed up with Latham’s bullying and time wasting. Every chance he gets Mark Latham works with the Liberals and Nationals to attack vulnerable people and working people.
I reckon it was time to call out his disgusting behaviour.

Things that happened today:
1/ The NSW Govt informed the Opposition they will block the NSW Parliament sitting next week.
2/ The Premier cancelled daily press conferences to update the community on the COVID outbreak.
Democracy isn’t optional. It’s an essential service.
#BREAKING
the NSW Liberals and Nationals have just stopped the Parliament sitting by refusing to show up.
The Labor opposition are here. We understand political leaders need to be accountable to the community.
Democracy isn’t an optional luxury, it’s an essential service.
I just moved a motion in the House calling on the Prime Minister and NSW Premier to condemn the violent and offensive protests in Melbourne earlier this week.
It is important we call out right wing extremists & these acts of violence.
#Breaking
Labor’s Dr Michael Holland has just won the seat of Bega. A seat Labor hasn’t ever held.
People are sick of living in a state where you can’t afford a home and a Liberal Govt. that doesn’t listen.
Bring on 2023.
Tonight I returned to Martin Place where NSW Police have been issuing fines to Pass it on Clothing & other services.
It's freezing & our homeless community deserve access to warm clothing.
The NSW Govt must ensure these homelessness support orgs are supported, not fined.
So some big news! I’ve just been appointed as Labor’s Shadow Minister for Water, Housing and Homelessness. It’s gonna be a big job but ready to take up the fight.
Sydney commuters:
Train drivers didn’t go on strike. They turned up to work.
The NSW Govt cancelled the trains and locked out the workforce in a massive escalation to a partial, limited workban associated with an established industrial dispute.
Facts matter.
No no but this is important.
Our ICAC has a current inquiry on foot into breaches of public trust.
For the Prime Minister to label it a ‘disgrace’ and ‘shameful’ isn’t just a complete shit take, it’s a direct interference into the administration of justice in this state.
NSW Parliament is scheduled to resume tomorrow…
But the Liberal and National Party are refusing to show up, meaning they've effectively cancelled Parliament.
Accountability is now more important than ever. It’s time to bring back Parliament.
FACT: Auburn has the highest rate of people living in 'extremely overcrowded' housing in Sydney.
ALSO FACT: Auburn has also had some of the highest rates of COVID transmission.
These things are linked. Sydney's housing crisis is making people sick.
Daily reminder: the NSW Govt have sold $2.8 billion worth of public and social housing over the past decade.
Is anyone really surprised we have a housing crisis?
This breaks my heart 💔
I took this outside my local Centrelink in Rockdale today. The line was there all day😔
It’s 15 degrees in Sydney. The middle of winter.
We’re a rich country, a rich state. We don’t need queues out the front of Centrelink.
Bring back Jobkeeper.
Remember when 2 trillion litres of water mysteriously went missing from the precious Murray Darling Basin and Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro did absolutely nothing about it? 🤔🤔
Almost 5000 single women over 55 are waiting for housing on the social housing waitlist.
Why? There is not a single place in Greater Sydney that's affordable to rent for a single woman on the aged pension.
The NSW housing crisis is failing people of every generation.
Aussie women in sport have literally saved me this past 12months: Ash Barty, Sam Kerr, Emma McKeon, Ariarne Titmus, Jess Fox, just the entire Women’s Ashes team, I’m sure I’ll find some random Aussie woman skier or something that I love soon YEAH THE GIRLS 💛💛💛
#BREAKING
the NSW Govt. has delivered less than 2,400 new social and affordable housing dwellings since 2015.
Their target was 23,000 by 2025.
What a complete failure. No wonder we have a housing crisis in NSW.
Short thread on NSW testing rn: Sam clearly has COVID, positive RAT and heavy symptoms. All the clinics near us closed except St George hospital, massive line around the block in the sun. He is not physically up for it and clearly infectious = PCR not happening.
54% of people in Wilcannia live in housing that is 'often or always overcrowded'
There is a reason why these communities are so vulnerable to COVID - unsafe housing is making people sick.
Update on NSW Parliament👇🏻
Labor has shown up to the sitting today. The Govt has not.
Sadly we cannot go ahead anyway. We cannot sit without a Minister or Parliamentary Secretary in attendance.
Discussion re these rules happening right now, but unlikely we can proceed 😡
In 2000 rent in Sydney cost about 30% of your weekly income.
2022? Rent is nearly 70% (that's right SEVENTY) of the median NSW income.
Every single day basic costs like housing in our state becomes more unaffordable - when will the Govt. take the housing crisis seriously?
There are over 50,000 people waiting for social housing in NSW. Over 8,000 are priority - families, women + kids leaving DV, old ppl at risk of homelessness.
Today the NSW Govt announced 400 new homes and talked it up like they’re a bunch of heroes.
O.8% of the problem🙄
Today the NSW Government bragged about selling off over $2 Billion worth of public housing.
They have overseen one of the largest transfers of public assets to private ownership in our state's history.
The NSW Govt is addicted to privatization.
Fmr NSW Govt Minister Pru Goward today said that poor people "are damaged, lacking in trust and discipline, and highly self interested".
She called them an ‘underclass’ and ‘proles’.
Look I guess I’m glad the Libs are saying what they really think out loud now.
Some big news this morning.
Labor has put a freeze on the sale of public housing.
The previous Liberal + National Govt sold off a staggering $3.5 billion worth of public housing - that ends today.
We are taking steps on a new way forward.
We’re lucky we can afford RATs - my brother in law picked up another 3 for us for SEVENTY DOLLARS. I get it, RATs aren’t perfect but this situation isn’t perfect and it’s so wrong + unaustralian that wealthy people have better access to essential healthcare.
🤩 WOW 🤩
Forever grateful to be given the chance to serve as NSW Minister for Housing + Homelessness, Minister for Mental Health, Minister for Youth, Minister for Water + Minister for North Coast.
It’s a huge task. I’m so here for it. Let’s get to work 💪🏻
I’m actually so angry at the Libs and the Greens for teaming up to block the Housing Australia Future Fund.
This isn't political games. This is real homes delayed in NSW for people who desperately need them.
2019: The NSW Govt privatizes the Sirius public housing for $150m.
2021: The new private owner makes $435m selling most (not even all!) of the apartments.
A developer has made a $285m profit (so far) on a building until recently we all owned. What a monumental policy fail.
Purple blunder? Grabbed a badge from the car and it really popped with my dress 💅🏻
How about instead of policing my fashun we talk about the incredible opportunity of a YES VOTE for Australia 🇦🇺
Geez get a grip Sky News 🙄
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
When you become a Minister you swear an oath to the people of NSW.
You can choose to swear the oath under God. I’m not religious so I didn’t, but I did use this. It’s a precious acorn necklace of my late Mum.
To me this is sacred, my most solemn oath 💕
I’m not a politician who tells others to do things I wouldn’t do.
I have booked a consultation with a GP to receive an AstraZeneca jab next week.
I’m 36.
ATAGI recommends Pfizer for my age but that option is not available to me. I know this is safe and necessary.
Prisons, hospitals, public transport, roads, electricity, water - these things are community assets, they should never be run for private profit.
Privatisation undermines our safety, strength and resilience as a community.
Congrats to Dom Perrottet on becoming Premier of NSW. It’s an honour to lead the best state.
Now I wonder how many of our public assets he will try and sell off before Labor wins in 2023 🤔
I have a great idea for Dom Perrottet. Apologise for this ugly and partisan attack on the policy of flying the indigenous flag on the Harbour Bridge now that your policy is *double checks notes* flying the indigenous flag on the Harbour Bridge.
Here's what Scott Morrison's 'can-do capitalism' has brought us:
- climate crisis
- housing crisis
- wage and Super Theft
- mass privatisation
- record inequality
- flat wages
so yeah it's a hard pass from me 🙅🏻♀️
In San Francisco a rent stabilisation board determines how much landlords are able to increase the rent. This year the limit is 3.6%. Rent caps are used around the world and are desperately needed in Oz. Check out all their decisions here:
If anyone else working in an ordinary workplace acted like Minister David Elliot they'd be either suspended or sacked on the spot. Political leaders should have higher standards - not lower.
While the NSW Govt is focused on their latest corruption scandal hundreds of families will tonight sleep in cars and tents because of the rental affordability crisis.
The NSW Liberals have lost touch with what matters to people in this state.
The average life expectancy for an Indigenous man in Wilcannia is 37 years. For an Indigenous woman it is 42 years.
This alone is a national disgrace.
Include the fact that less than 20% of the population is fully vaccinated and it’s a full blown public health catastrophe.
It's no surprise that running essential services for profit always leaves the community worse off.
Telstra sold = expensive internet
CSL sold = can't make vaccines
NSW electricity sold = expensive electricity
Buses sold = cut services
Toll companies sold = skyrocketing tolls
The stories of our housing crisis on
@4corners
tonight are 💔 but they don’t shock me. Families like those featured have been speaking their truth for a while, political leaders haven’t been listening. 🙏🏻

. I don’t regard govt as malign, I regard it as essential. Didn’t vote for this mob + have plenty of criticism but we’re a democracy. That means we all give and take. My ‘right’ to privacy gives way to responsibility to other ppl rn. Society > self.
#BREAKING
Labor has just introduced our constitutional amendment to enshrine Sydney Water and Hunter Water as public utilities in the NSW constitution.
Our water assets should never be owned by private interests.
UPDATE: We are mobilising trained disaster mental health support clinicians who will join staff at Bondi Junction in the coming days. The first mental health staff will be at Bondi Junction from this afternoon to provide support.
We are also working on finding a location for…
🚨BREAKING🚨NSW Labor Leader
@ChrisMinnsMP
has announced a massive big build to fast track social housing maintenance as part of our plan for economic recovery.
👉🏻 jobs for tradies who need work
👉🏻 better homes for vulnerable ppl
👉🏻 lower emissions via energy efficient homes
Sometimes you hear: "Liberals are just better economic managers"
I say check their record:
-largest debt in NSW history
-harbour metro $2.2bn over budget
-metro west $4.3bn over budget
-light rail $1.3bn over budget
-skyrocketing house prices
-wages going nowhere
Young ppl in NSW: do not be scared by that stupid ad our Federal Govt has put out. Our wonderful docs and nurses @ NSW Health would never let anyone suffer like that.
Young ppl in NSW: do be mightily pissed off you could get very sick from COVID b/c we’re unvaccinated.
🚨Breaking🚨
The NSW Govt has released its updated public housing waiting list data. And it’s not good.
We now have over 51,000ppl waiting for housing. Over 6,500 of those are listed as priority, meaning they are at imminent risk of homelessness.
This is a crisis.
My lockdown demands:
- Jumpers stay as soft and cuddly after a few washes as when you first bought them
- Immediate resignation of that annoying bird outside the bedroom window at 6am
- Mass distribution of Mimosas
- Less windy
It’s good to see the Health Minister acknowledge that access to quality, safe and stable housing is a health issue.
But Wilcannia locals have been raising this issue for years - it shouldn’t take a crisis to get our political leaders paying attention.
Some big news this morning.
The Liberal experiment of out-sourcing maintenance contracts to private providers has failed.
We’re bringing social housing maintenance back into public hands - to bring dignity, safety & pride to the social housing system in NSW.
In Sydney, house prices are increasing by $5,600 per week. Not a single LGA in Sydney is affordable for an average income worker.
In our regions, rents have skyrocketed.
NSW has a housing crisis. It’s getting worse. The tired old NSW Govt has no ideas to fix it.
There are currently 300,000 vacant homes across NSW.
Many of these are in areas experiencing a severe housing crisis - thousands of people who need homes, and thousands of homes sitting empty.
We can fix the housing crisis - we just need a Govt. that takes it seriously.
Do you know what Gladys Berejiklian said was her top priority when she was elected Premier in 2017?
I’ll tell you - it was housing affordability.
And what has the NSW Govt done about it?
🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Talking about Sydney’s housing crisis today👇🏻
UPDATE: We've officially cancelled the Warragamba Dam wall raising.
We inherited a project that had no money allocated and would not reduce flood risk.
We’re taking a practical approach - early warnings, evacuation routes and stopping development on floodplains.
I reckon you can judge a govt by how it treats the most vulnerable.
Today it was revealed the NSW Govt. left a block of public housing tenants without electricity in the stairs, carpark & communal rooms for 2 WEEKS because they just FORGOT to pay the bills.
As expected the Parliament has adjourned because the Govt refused to show up and used standing orders (the rules of Parliament) to prevent us from proceeding without them. Pissed off about them disrespecting ur democratically elected Parliament? Vote Labor!
Remember that time a NSW govt whistleblower asked ‘is this a bribe?’ when learning that the Deputy Premier had allegedly intervened to ensure his mates company received govt funding? 🤔🤔
Yeah, me too. It was last week!
Exciting news! Yesterday I was re-selected as one of the Labor Left candidates for the NSW Legislative Council.
Now it’s onto NSW Labor Conference and the State Election next March!
The support of progressive members + unions means so much to me. I hope I do you proud ❤️
Are you serious the hundreds of Dept of Education staff working on a Saturday to get schools COVID ready are volunteers?!
I mean good on them but why on earth can’t we pay them? This Govt is allergic to paying people proper wages for doing their jobs.
7NEWS has exclusive pictures and details on NSW's latest battle against COVID-19. Hundreds of volunteers have been working around the clock moving tonnes of gear to help protect students against Omicron.

Incredibly powerful insights direct from doctors on the front line of emergency departments in Western Sydney. They have described the conditions as third world, as like a disaster zone, they feel like they’re failing their patients every single day.
Really shocking stuff 😞
I don't think Bronwyn Bishop should be lecturing anyone about helicopters tbh 🚁 🚁
But seriously so many people have had their lives completely devastated these floods.
Of course mates help mates, but it’s not unreasonable to expect our Govt to be there for these people.
Once again an unsolicited opinion from a destructive, divisive loser trying to turn ppl against each other.
Keep your hot takes to yourself, here in Oz we love Usman and are proud of our world beating team 🇦🇺🦘🏏
Once again the Australian cricket team do not celebrate in champagne style because 1 of the team members is a Muslim. Are we all to suspend normal life because of the minority?
More likely to be unvaccinated. More likely to get COVID. More likely to have lost their job or been stood down. More likely to experience rental / housing stress. More likely to have felt mental health impacts.
Young ppl deserve to be a focus in any recovery plan.
Feeling v sad about all the deaths out of NSW but seeing 2 women in their 20s have died o/n really breaks my heart.
One was unvaccinated, one had one dose. We don't know their personal circumstances but we do know that this vaccine rollout has been so hard on young people
“They are damaged, lacking in trust and discipline, and highly self-interested.”
No former NSW Govt Minister Pru Goward isn’t talking about politicians, it turns out this is what Liberals really think about poor people.
