My best memories of ESPN were when it just covered sports. I’ll never understand why they decided to inject politics into their programming. Network has never been the same.
Tom Osborne, when asked about going 60-3 in a 5 year period
at Nebraska:
“ Well, it started in the weight room. Our culture here revolves around it. We take great pride in dominating our opponents physically, and for the most part, we just wear people down “
Coaches only put people on the field that they can trust. Players only want to play next to teammates they can trust. And you earn that trust, every single day, by being on time, working hard, knowing what to do, and doing everything else it takes to win.

Eliminating the handshake line is the last thing you should do. That would be a farce. Our society is turning into one giant “ safe space “ where we just run from problems instead of learning how to face them and solve them. Walking down a line and shaking someone’s hand after
Practicing hard is a choice. Watching extra film is a choice. Lifting weights, being coachable, and going to class are a choice. Your choices here are going to force me to either play you, or sit you on the bench. You’ll get exactly what you want.
Pat Summitt
The weight room is about respect. If you miss workouts, or are late to workouts, you disrespect your teammates, coaches, and the importance of training. And you are a distraction to winning.
If you can’t be trusted off the field, you can’t be trusted on it. Your character doesn’t change throughout the day. You can either be counted on around here, or you can’t. It’s really that simple.

Bill Snyder, who resurrected Kansas State in arguably the greatest program build in CFB history:
“ It starts in the weightroom. You won’t win unless you are getting an edge on people in that area of the program. Then, there has to be 24/7 discipline and accountability. “
The weight room is the heartbeat of your team. It represents the culture of your team. And you are not going to consistently beat anybody without getting an advantage over your opponents in this area of the program.

We need more notable people in this country like yourself willing to be publicly accountable when mistakes are made. We have become a society of excuses. All the best moving forward.
I could walk into our weight room any day of the week and immediately sense the mindset of our team in wanting to achieve great things. That was the barometer.

There is nothing more important than intelligence on the field. And I mean nothing. Because the people that don’t know where to lineup, and what to do, will always make mistakes. And usually at the worst possible time. Alignment and Assignment errors lose more games than any

Walk into any any weight room in the country, and you will get an instant snapshot of program Culture. How are athletes dressed. How hard are they working. Are they coachable. What music is being played. Is the room picked up.
I got on players and coaches as hard as anyone, but you’ve also got to know when to put your arm around a guy. People have to see your human side. You can’t have anyone going home at night feeling like they don’t belong or aren’t valued.

“ Yes, it’s tough around here. And I am not easy to play for. And that’s because there is a price to pay for winning. But a coach doesn’t throw you to the wolves unless they think you have some wolf in you “.

There is not a coach on earth that does not notice great effort. If you want to create opportunity for yourself, and earn the respect of everyone around you, then simply outwork people. Nothing makes a more immediate and lasting impression than a great work ethic.
“ You can’t enforce standards without accountability. And punishing players goes along with that. But ultimately, and it can be a painstaking process to get there, true Discipline isn’t about punishing players. It’s about creating an environment where you don’t have to do it “.
Being late is not only a distraction, but it sends a selfish message that your time is more important than everyone else’s. It’s difficult to ever count on people like that.
Bill Belichick
Athletes, don’t take hard coaching personal. It’s a coach demanding your best, pushing you to get better, and caring enough about you to do it. Take it personal if they stop coaching you.

There is just no way around it. The success of our season is going to sink or swim based on how committed this team was in the off season. That weight room is just too damn important.

Discipline starts in the off season. If you are undisciplined in workouts, you will be undisciplined in practice. If you are undisciplined in practice, you will be undisciplined in games. Undisciplined teams beat themselves. Their opponent doesn’t have to.
