Column: After Alabama's latest men's basketball embarrassment Saturday, the school needs to quit pretending it cares about murder victim Jamea Jonae Harris or her family. Stop talking. Nobody believes you.
Why would anyone want to see Indiana State (28-6, No. 1 in the nation in effective FG percentage, averaging 84.4 ppg) in the NCAA Tournament when you can be treated to this viewing experience instead?
Today I wrote about what I know best: My daughter the Olympian. A lifetime in the making, a year in the near-unmaking, a week of incredible tension and joy. She made it.
Cam Rising, asked about Caleb Williams' "Fuck Utah" nail polish, said, "I don't give a shit. He can put whatever he wants on there. ... Hope he likes it."
Hearing some buzz about a big Washington Post story in the works on LSU women's hoops coach Kim Mulkey, potentially next week. Wagons being circled, etc.
Since we have no sports teams to cheer for, I’m cheering for the medical personnel, healthcare workers, scientists and public servants tasked with handling what is happening and what’s to come. You are appreciated and valued. Go team. (Not a political tweet.)
They introduced the All-State Good Works team at halftime, basically guys who do nice things in the community. One of them was a Sooner and he gave the Horns down the entire time he was on the field and got what has to be the most vicious booing in Good Works history.
Lilly King, speaking it plain as always, regarding the American tendency to downplay medals that aren't gold: "Pardon my French, but the fact that we’re not able to celebrate silver and bronze is bullshit."
A 9-2 Army team that won the commander-in-chief trophy by beating both Navy and Air Force gets no bowl bid. There are reasons, but no justifications. What a travesty.
Column: The NCAA and Power-5 conferences laid out a daunting road to college football season today. If we don't get there, the failure starts at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Indiana State hangs 100 on Utah. You cannot convince me that the NCAA Tournament selection committee REALLY watched Indiana State and decided it wasn't worthy of the Big Dance. It had to be a case of simply scanning the resume as opposed to seeing the Sycamores play.

Daily Cover: My daughter took pictures with Kevin Durant, played poker with Caeleb Dressel and won a silver medal. And I was the luckiest Olympic parent of all to be here. In appreciation of the little things that lead to very big things.
The CFP announcing that it is moving out of the Rose Bowl due to "the growing number of COVID-19 cases in Southern California" is an outright fabrication. Positivity rate in L.A. County: 14.7 percent. Positivity rate in Tarrant County, where the game is moving: 17 percent.

exclusive: federal documents seized from ASM Sports show potential NCAA violations involving more than 20 schools and 25 players, including some of the biggest names and programs in college basketball
Kentucky has beaten a 12 seed, a 13 seed and will get either an 8 or 16(!) seed in the sweet sixteen in Cat-friendly Atlanta. Anyone remember Sunday, when Cal was complaining about how hard his draw was?
Sources: Luke Fickell has informed the Cincinnati team that he is leaving for Wisconsin. Kerry Coombs has been named the interim coach. Search will begin immediately.
Column: Roy Williams donated $600,000 to North Carolina to fund another year of scholarships for seniors in spring semester sports. Fact is, he's been making stealth donations to non-revenue programs for years. On the biggest sports fan on the UNC campus
Sources: ACC ADs met today and are "moving forward in an attempt to play," in the words of one staffer. League presidents could be meeting today as well.
Vintage Rick Pitino week:
* Take a bad loss, declare that everyone sucks and life is misery.
* Regroup Wednesday for first road win since early Jan.
* Wear white suit Sunday in the Garden.
* Upset No. 15 team in the country, leading nearly the whole game.
New: Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh ranks among the richest Americans who mow their own lawns. And he wants to know why the youth of America isn't out there with him cutting the grass.
"Mowing the lawn is one of the great feelings I have in life.”
This is one of the best/worst games in tourney history. I mean, give Baylor immense credit. And it's fair to ask why North Carolina's press offense is just a puddle of panic. But you cannot dismiss the role of incompetent officiating, too.
Seriously: the 9-2 United States Military Academy is not going to a bowl, while 3-7 Mississippi State is going to the — wait for it — Armed Forces Bowl.
Tulane going from 2-10 to 12-2 and beating USC in the Cotton Bowl. TCU going from 5-7 to 13-1 and beating Michigan to make the CFP national championship game. In the same damn season. In the same damn sport.
Boise’s last three scoring plays of the game: hook and lateral, halfback pass, Statue of Liberty. If they don’t execute all three, they lose. Maybe my favorite FB game I’ve ever covered.
Sources: Attempts to salvage the fall 2020 college football season are all but over. “It’s gotten to a critical stage," one told SI. "I think all of us will be meeting with our boards in the coming days. We have work to do that is no fun.”
A little perspective for Americans freaking out on Ledecky being beaten: her 400 time was the second-best she's ever swam, and the first time in three years she's been under 3:58. She swam a damn good race. Titmus was slightly better.
Good work as usual by
@CFBHeather
on the FSU decision. Here is the part that bothers me. The FSU offense labored with third stringer Brock Glenn … who wouldn’t be playing come Jan. 1. Using the offense w Glenn as QB as a disqualifier is flawed logic.
Some history for Louisville fans:
Nick Saban was only hired at Alabama after Rich Rodriguez turned down the job.
Rick Pitino was the third choice at Kentucky, after Lute Olson and PJ Carlesimo turned it down.
Sometimes the next guy on the list is the right guy for the job.

Column: Some thoughts on the seniors who just saw their college athletic careers ended in a most stunning and random way Thursday -- one in particular. You deserved a better sendoff, kids.
With Auburn down 40 -- 40! -- the Ball Don't Lie Tournament has cleaned house. All schools noted in the federal corruption complaint are out of the tournament before the Sweet 16.
"Here we go, for the win ... "
Kick goes through, silence.
"There's a flag down, offsides on the defense."
"Unbelievable."
"Unbelievable."
Riveting call, guys.
Column: Turns out, star Alabama player Brandon Miller was involved in escalating a verbal confrontation into a murder. That's not "wrong spot at the wrong time," as coach Nate Oats put it in a dishonest and dismissive comment.
News: Michigan player Germon Green has retained noted attorney Tom Mars to assist in filing charges and recouping money damages after being allegedly assaulted in the tunnel by a Michigan State player or players Saturday night.
The Pac-12 has followed up its best football season in many years with a 6-0 start to the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Really a good thing they're killing the conference.
Rick Pitino was fired at Louisville, went into basketball exile in Greece, came back, got a new job and now has taken a team to the NCAA Tournament before any meaningful punishment has been administered by the NCAA to anyone from the SDNY probe. What a system.
Horrible no-call, no doubt. But the Saints had many chances before and after to win and failed. Thirteen-point lead in what is supposed to be the best homefield advantage in football? You win that game. Bad clock management. Breakdowns on offense and defense.
"What cost is it to those student-athletes?"

football coach Eli Drinkwitz commented on the direction of college athletics right now ⤵️ says it's a football decision that will affect A LOT more than just football teams.

Ole Miss led 16-7, played about 48 percent of the game well. Which is probably about as much of the gameplan as Lane Kiffin got installed before decided to spend Monday night on Twitter waging war with a local TV guy.
While Mizzou may deserve punishment, this ruling only reinforces the credibility crater the NCAA lives in regarding academic fraud after whiffing on UNC. Completely miss on institutionalized fraud over decades, and everything else is viewed through that prism.
